Frame Rates & Formats
The XL H1S delivers 1080 HD resolution, with selectable frame rates of 60i, 30F and 24F.

  • 30 Frame delivers spectacular clarity for Internet Video or display on a progressive scan monitor
  • 24 Frame gives the temporal look and motion of film.
  • 60i is the normal frame rate for Television

The switch is labeled 'i', 'F1' and 'F2'. The frame rate applied by these switches changes depending on whether the XL H1S is in 60i mode (factory standard) or 50i mode (optional upgrade*). In 60i mode, the frame rate can be switched between 60i (60 fields per second, interlaced-the "standard" video speed), 30F, and 24F. In 50i mode (optional*), the choices for frame rates are 50i or 25F.

These Frame modes have the same look as progressive frame rates, but are not labeled "progressive" because they are created with an interlaced chip. The end result is exactly the same to the editing system (and to the viewer) as 30p and 24p, respectively.

Note: The actual frame rates are 59.94, 29.97 and 23.976 for 60i mode and 50 and 25 for 50i mode (optional*).

*The upgrade to add 50i/25F is performed by Canon's Factory Service Center.
