Take the photograph. For this project it¡¯s best if you take a picture of your child looking straight into camera. Set your digital camera in portrait mode, face him or her towards an open window and center them in front a festive backdrop, 5-6 feet and zoom in with your camera¡¯s zoom feature to fill your frame with his or her face and torso. Try taking pictures with and without using your flash, see which one looks better. Control your flash with that lightening bolt icon on the camera back. Cycle through the flash settings and select no flash and forced flash.
Print and trim the photograph. Adjust your photo to approximate size before printing. If using the 5¡± x 7¡± greeting cards your finished image will need to be under 7¡± in height and under 7¡± in width. Print on Canon Matte Photo Paper and trim to fit so it nestles nicely within your greeting card with room to spare on either side for a handwritten message.
Create the talking mouth. This is where the pop-up maneuver begins. Fold your image in half, image side out. Next start at the folded edge and cut the length of the mouth on the photograph. Then fold back the flaps to form two triangles. Open the flaps and the whole page.

Folding the card. Now comes the tricky part, with the white side of the paper facing you, push the triangle down through the other side of the paper.

Fold your card so it looks like this ----->

When you fold and unfold the picture, the mouth will look like it¡¯s talking.

Inserting color. For a little color behind the open, talking mouth, cut a piece of red cardboard scrap large enough to cover the space you¡¯ve cut for the mouth. Fold in the middle, glue and adhere to the backside of the talking mouth card. Now glue the back of the entire picture and insert into your 5¡± x 7¡± greeting card. Make sure to align the folds and push the picture securely into the inside fold of the greeting card.

Decorate the front of the card. Let the kids embellish the front of the card in their own personal style. I used a piece of red cardboard scrap and did the ¡°less is more¡± decor for the front of the card. I cut the scrap into a not-so-perfect circle and then continued to cut the circle into a spiral and glued only the outer edge down, so the spiral pops out a little.

Congratulations! You¡¯ve created a personalized thank you card that everyone will be talking about. You just need to write your message inside, pop into an envelope and you¡¯re ready to mail.
