What is WebView Livescope and how can it be used?
The WebView Livescope is a video distribution system developed by Canon. Live video captured by the camera can be distributed via the Internet or an Intranet and viewed on a PC. The most prominent feature of the WebView Livescope is that the viewer can remotely control the camera.
How do I connect the camera server to a network?
The procedure for connecting the camera server to a network is almost identical to that of a standard PC-LAN connection. The camera server requires one fixed global IP address.
Apart from charges for the installation of the camera server, how much are the operating costs?
When operating the camera server in conjunction with an Internet connection, fees for the Internet provider's connection service and/or fees for the access line must be paid separately. Depending on the provider and the configuration of the Internet connection, your monthly fees will vary.
Can the traffic load be reduced for Intranet use?
You can set the video capture size, the video quality, the number of clients that can simultaneous access the webcam and the frame rate on the camera server. By adjusting these values, you can reduce the traffic load.
What type of connection should be used between the camera server and the Internet?
A 24-hour continuous connection is recommended. Use either an ISDN/ADSL line or a leased line to connect to your provider.
What networking equipment is required?
A router is required to connect to your network. It is best to use the router recommended by your provider.
What is the frame rate of live video?
In an Internet environment, the frame rate varies depending on the line bandwidth and the parameters listed below.
- VB101 settings (Capture size, video quality, number of simultaneous clients etc.)
- Line conditions between the camera server and the Internet.
- The bandwidth of the line between the viewer PC and the Internet and the load condition of the PC being used
- Routing condition in the Internet
In the Intranet environment (Ethernet LAN), the frame rate varies depending on the network condition and a PC performance, but a maximum of 30 frame/sec can be achieved.
How many clients can view live video at the same time?
VB-C10/VB-C10R: Max. 20 clients
VB101: Max. 40 clients
What compression method is used?
Motion-JPEG and JPEG are used in video and still-picture mode, respectively. You can also set the video quality on the camera server settings page. The greater value gives better video quality. However, since picture data will also be larger, higher-quality pictures may lower the frame rate.
Can I connect more than two cameras to a single camera server?
You can connect up to four cameras to the VB101. If VC-C4/VC-C4Rs are used, all four cameras can be controlled.
Can video be recorded?
With the VB-C10/VB-C10R and VB101, still pictures can be recorded based on input from external device and pre-determined schedules.
Does the camera server handle audio?
Although the current version does not support audio, it can be used in combination with the third party products such as Real Audio to support audio.
