Q How do I install the printer driver for Windows 95?

A
  1. Start up your system in this order for Plug and Play to work:
  1. Make sure your computer is turned off.
  2. Be sure the printer is connected to the printer
  3. Turn on the printer.
  4. Now turn on the computer.
  1. If Windows recognizes the printer a "New Hardware Found" screen will be displayed
  2. Insert the CD labeled Printer Setup into your CD drive.
  3. Make sure the "Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer" is selected and click OK.
  4. Type D:\ (where d: is your CD drive ... most CD drives are either D: or E:).
  5. Click OK
  6. If asked to keep or replace the driver, replace it.
  7. Choose the appropriate LPT port (usually LPT1)
  8. It is advisable to select this printer as your default printer
  9. Click Finish

If Windows does not recognize the printer:

  1. Insert the CD labeled Printer Setup into your CD drive.
  2. If Setup starts automatically go to step 4
  3. If Setup doesn't start, from the taskbar, click Start and then Run.
  4. Type D:\ SETUP(where d: is your CD drive ... most CD drives are either D: or E:).
  5. Select "Continue with Printer and Canon Creative Setup" and click Next
  6. Select your Printer Type
  7. Select this as your Default Printer
  8. Select the Lpt Port and click Next
  9. Confirm the settings and click Next

Q How do I install the printer driver for Windows 3.1?

A

To use this printer driver with software application packages that operate with Windows 3.1, follow the procedure below.

  1. Start up Windows 3.1.
  2. Double-click on the Control Panel icon within the Main program group.
  3. Double-click on the Printers icon within the Control Panel window. The Printers dialog box is displayed.
  4. Click on the Add button to expand the Printers dialog box and display the list of printers. The Install Unlisted or Updated Printer item is highlighted.
  5. Click on the Install button. The Install Driver dialog box is displayed.
  6. Insert the Printer Setup CD into your CD ROM drive of your computer. If the CD ROM drive is your "D:" drive, click OK and proceed with the next step. Otherwise, type the letter name of your CD ROM disk drive (such as "E:") and then click OK.
  7. The Add Unlisted or Updated Printer dialog box is displayed with a list of the names of the Canon printer models that are available. Click on the name which corresponds to your printer model, then click OK to start the installation of the driver files onto your computer's hard disk.
  8. When the installation of the driver files is completed, the name of your printer appears in the list of Installed Printers.
  9. If your printer is connected to your computer system's LPT1 port, proceed with the next step. Otherwise, click on the Connect button to display the Connect dialog box. This dialog box displays a list of available output ports for your computer system to which your printer can be connected. (Only those ports that begin with LPT can be used.) Click on the LPT port to which your printer is connected, and click OK to return to the Printers dialog box.
  10. If your new Canon printer is the primary printer for your computer system, click on the Set As Default Printer button to select the Canon printer as the default printer for Windows. Otherwise, you need to select the Canon printer each time you want to print.

You are now ready to print from any Windows 3.1 software application package.

If you upgrade or reinstall the printer driver, be sure to remove the previous version of the driver using the Windows Control Panel before performing the new installation.

Q How do I install the printer driver for DOS?

A

This program prepares Canon BJC-240, BJC-250, BJC-4200, BJC-4300 and BJC-4550 printer drivers on the disk in the A or B drive. The prepared drivers can be installed by the DOS applications.

This program has 2 functions. It allows you to create and install the BJ Setup Utility and/or decompress the DOS drivers for several DOS programs.(This program will not run in Windows or in a DOS window.)

  1. Create a folder on your hard drive for the BJDOS.exe file
  2. Download BJDOS.exe to the newly created folder on your Hard Disk Drive
  3. Place a blank floppy disk in drive a:
  4. Type the following line to expand the BJDOS.exe file onto the floppy disk c:\(folder name)\bjdos.exe a:<enter>
  5. Once expanded to the floppy, run Canon.bat from the floppy disk using the following instructions:
  1. Go to DOS
  2. Switch to your floppy drive (A: or B) 3. Type: Canon (Window appears)
  3. Hit any key to continue
  4. Select: Prepare drivers (The blinking one is selected)
  5. "All of these drivers are presented..." (Press any key to continue)
  6. Choose your model printer (Enter) 8. Hit any key to continue
  7. Says Decompressing...Hit any key to continue once finished 10. Choose Application from list(WordPerfect, etc.) Enter 11. Takes you back to DOS prompt

To install the BJ Setup utility, choose Install BJ Setup Utility Program to create DOS drivers for a specific program, choose Prepare Drivers
Once the drivers have been prepared, follow the instructions of the included Readme file.

How do I install the printer driver for Win NT 4.0?

To use this printer driver with software application packages that operate with Microsoft Windows NT, it is important that you follow the installation procedure as shown below.

Note: It is necessary to log on with full control access privileges for printer settings to install the printer driver successfully.

  1. Start Windows NT on your system and log on as a member of the administrators group or power user group.
  2. Click on the Start button.
  3. Point to Settings.
  4. Click on Printers to display the Printers folder.

Note: The icons of the existing printer drivers that are installed in your system appear in the Printers folder. If an older version of the printer driver you wish to install appears in the Printers folder, delete the printer driver. Select the icon of the older version of the printer driver and click on Delete in the File menu. Click on the Yes button when the message appears to delete the printer driver. After deleting the older version of the printer driver, restart Windows NT.

  1. Double-click on the Add Printer icon to start the "Add Printer Wizard".
  2. Follow the instructions of the Add Printer Wizard to proceed.
  3. Click on the check box next to LPT1: or the port you want to use, when the list of available ports appears. Click on the Next button to proceed.
  4. Click on the Have Disk... button when the list of manufacturers and models of the printers appears.
  5. Insert the BJ Raster Printer Driver Disk into the floppy disk drive of your computer. If the floppy disk drive is drive A, click on the OK button and continue with the next step. Otherwise, type the letter of your floppy disk drive (such as "B:") and then click on the OK button.
  6. Select the desired printer you want to install, and click on the Next button. Depending on your system, if you are upgrading from a previous version of this printer driver, you must choose Replace existing driver after you select your printer even though Windows NT recommends that you keep the existing driver. Otherwise the driver will not be upgraded successfully.
  7. Follow the instructions of the Add Printer Wizard until the installation is finished. An icon for your printer will then appear in the Printers folder.

You are now ready to print from any Windows NT software application package. The driver is automatically set for printing in color.

Notes:

  • When installing multiple printers, it is necessary to specify the default printer.
    Select the icon of the printer driver you wish to set as a default printer and click on Set As Default in the File menu.
  • If the installation was successful, "Canon Your-Printer-Name Properties" should appear for the name of the printer dialog box. Note that the Microsoft version will display "Canon Bubble-Jet Your-Printer-Name Properties".

Q Printer will not initialize

A The BJ cartridge is not making proper electrical contact with the carriage. The cartridge may need to be re-seated. Lift the locking lever to unlock the cartridge, remove the cartridge, re-seat it, hold the cartridge while locking down the lever. This may take several tries.

Q Printer output is condensed

A If you install a Photo Ink Cartridge and try to print with the regular COLOR setting in the printer driver - the results will be Condensed printing. When printing with the Photo Cartridge, make sure Photo Color is selected in the driver. Start, Settings, Printers, right-click the BJC-240 icon and select Properties, Click the Graphics Tab, Under Color Model make sure you have Photo Color Selected with the Photo Cartridge installed.

Q Printer tried to print but no ink is dispersed

A A BJ ink cartridge may be out of ink. Perform a nozzle test by powering the printer off, hold the power button down until it beeps four times. The nozzle test will show which tanks are empty. If no ink is dispersed, perform several head cleanings. With the printer on, press and hold the resume button until the printer beeps twice.
