By choosing a different Picture Style, you change not only the default levels of contrast, sharpening and color saturation, but also make subtle changes in the way different colors are recorded. By experimenting with different settings, you'll develop your own sense of when each setting is the answer for your needs in a particular situation.

In addition to the six pre-set Picture Styles, there are three User-Defined Picture Styles available in the EOS-1D Mark II N and EOS 5D. Users can take an existing Picture Style, make further adjustments, and save this as a separate "personal" setting. Also, Canon will provide additional specialized Picture Styles users can download and install into their camera, using any of these User Defined Picture Styles spaces.
The beauty of an image depends on the interaction of various factors such as high resolution, low noise, and rich coloration. Picture Style controls sharpness (clarity), contrast (the smoothness of gradations and differences between light and dark areas), and saturation and color tone (vividness and hue). The CMOS sensor and DIGIC II work noiselessly in the background, correcting image data to a degree never before possible over a broad dynamic range. |
