LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., May 25, 2012 – On this National Missing Children's Day, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, encourages parents to talk to their children about the importance of safety. Today's national day of awareness also marks the 15-year anniversary of Canon U.S.A.'s sponsorship of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC). Every year in America an estimated 800,000 children are reported missing - more than 2,000 children each day - and Canon U.S.A., along with NCMEC, is committed to helping return these children home safely.

NCMEC serves as the nation's resource on the issues of missing and sexually exploited children and has assisted law enforcement in the recovery of more than 175,230 children. Its recovery rate for missing children has increased from 62 percent in 1990 to 97.7 percent today. Canon U.S.A. and NCMEC have worked together to help raise public awareness about the issue of missing children since 1997. In that time, more than 800 children featured in Canon4Kids public service announcements have been recovered.

"With Canon's generous support, we have made great strides in educating the public about how important a recent photograph can be in the search for a missing child."
The Canon4Kids program donates products that assist law enforcement in quickly disseminating photos and information about missing children. Through this joint effort, Canon has donated more than 2,000 pieces of Canon equipment (digital cameras, fax machines, printers and scanners) to NCMEC for distribution to law enforcement agencies in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Additionally, Canon has helped raise more than $5 million by hosting charitable events to benefit NCMEC.
