Pay attention to the zoom range
I have this product for 8 months or so. I wish I paid more attention to the zoom range. The zoom range is f-6.4-64mm (35mm equivalent 43.5-435mm) which is a disaster when you tape your daughters dance show for example. I wish I read more before purchasing this product.

Takes good photos as well.
Got this for a recent trip to Yellowstone. Was amazed at the detail level of the video, can see fine fur detail when zoomed in on animals. The photos come out good for 8 Meg. I added the SM-V1 5.1-Channel Surround Microphone to get the Elk bugling during the rut and it was great. I am really impressed with the sound and video from such a small compact camcorder, it carries easily on day hikes. Also performed good at dusk, not great but good, real good actually.

Great camcorder
I have used this camera for the last 6-8 months shooting mainly my son's sporting events (track and football), and this camera has reallly deliveredd.
Imaqge quality is great, and the built in image stabilization is great, especially when shooting these faster moving sports.
Sound quality is frankly, amazing. Tiny mic picks up full, rich sound.
Simple data transfers to computer with supplied software.
Everything about this little camera is easy and enjoyable.

Jack the Giant Killer!
This Light Weight HD Camcorder is a pleasure to use with a very high quality picture. I am happy Canon chose to include the SDXC Option. I like the high quality flip out LCD Monitor as well as the EVF. I would buy another if Canon would build a Super Wide Angle Version of this VIXIA HF S30. I sure would like to see a field of view like the 16-35 mm on my 5D Markll , with very little distortion. Thank you Canon.
