PowerShot G1 X allows fully manual shooting to give you complete creative control over your images. Adjustment of settings is streamlined and intuitive, with a design based on Canon EOS operability. A bi-level dial on top of the camera sets the mode and allows quick adjustment of exposure compensation. An ergonomically-placed electronic dial located on the camera's front provides a natural feel for control over camera settings letting you concentrate on getting the perfect shot. Step-zoom allocation is also available.
camera is too slow between shot
Take too long between shot. Seems slower then the cheaper canon power shot. I wish they can make it a bit faster.

great camera/ missing features
I have the G1x for about 18 months, having bought it shortly after it was released. I wanted the larger sensor and the external (non-menu) controls. I had read most of the critical reviews and was not put off by the slower focus and lack of macro. Neither was a deal breaker.
There are 2 rather inexplicable problems when using external flash. One, there is a noticeable delay after triggering shutter and when the external flash fires. The built in flash does not have this problem. Second is the lack of TTL flash when shooting in manual
Canon DSLRs have TTL flash in manual, cannot understand why it would be disabled.
Firmware upgrade could probably fix these issues, but Canon seems reluctant to provide updates for Powershot cameras.

Extremely SLOW autofocus !
Let me begin by saying I have used Cannon cameras exclusively since 1973 ! I bought the G1x to replace my G7 that had served me well for many years. I also own 2 high end Canon DSLR camera bodies.
I have been extremely disappointed with the G1x for one reason. The autofocus is EXTREMELY slow ! You click the shutter and wait and wait and wait for the camera to take the photo ! I have missed so many shots with the camera waiting for the shutter to open.
When I do get an image the image quality is very good. I have been very frustrated with so many missed shots.

Poorly placed video button
A terribly placed video start button. This is where the exposure lock button used to be on powershots, which was perfect. Now when we go to lock exposure we mistakenly start shooting video. By the time this can be shut off, you miss the shot. I must be the only one that has a problem with this button as Canon continues to include this button in the exact same place on the G16. If you can't move it, at least let the function of it be customizable.
