Great carry around camera
This a great all in one carry around camera. I also own the older SX1 and SX40HS, and this camera improves on both.
The SX1 has a 35mm equivalent 24-560mm lens, has great image quality, great video, and shoots RAW files, but the downfall in my view was AA batteries which had a very short useful life (relative to a Lithium Ion battery) and always seemed to die at the wrong moment. There was no battery charge indicator other than an "idiot" light that would flash as the battery died.
Then a few versions later came the SX40HS. Great camera, battery charge indicator, Lithium Ion battery, 35mm equivalent 24-840mm lens, great image quality, great features, great video... but no RAW.
Now we have this little gem the SX50HS which in my view finally completes the picture for the perfect carry around camera with an even longer lens range, battery charge indicator, Lithium Ion battery with remarkable life, great image quality, great video, great features and shoots RAW files!
This camera boasts remarkable image quality from a very small chip. Does it compare to the image quality I get from my 1DS Mark III or 5D Mark III? No. Did I expect it to? No. But for the all the amazing features packed into this camera the bottom line for me is that there are many great images that HAVE been captured because of the portability and range of this camera which might have been missed otherwise, as I don't regularly tote around the 20 - 30 pounds of gear that would be needed to cover this lens range on my full frame DSLRs.

canon powershot sx50 review
Ok have had this camera for a month, and before buying this camara I read every review I could find,The picture quality in my option is very very good, you can also shoot in superfine mode to do this select L on the picture size then press disply button which will give you the option to shoot in super fine mode.the macro setting is also very good, the zoom in my opinion is good but not what that everybody seems to rave about, you have to have a very steady hand or you do need a tripod. I think overall this camra is excellent, the only thing that lets it down is the poor Evf which is far to small and needs to be of better quality and the LCD needs to have more pixels and a little bit bigger.i have found when taking photos in very bright conditions I have often just taken pot luck because the screen is poor and you cant use Evf

Excellent Camera!
I am very impressed with the Powershot SX-50 HS Camera. It produces beautiful pictures and is great for zoom at 50X. This is a high-end professional camera! If I were to improve this camera, I would add a feature to switch between auto-focus and manual with a finger dial adjustment for focus. As part of this feature, I would improve the viewer to higher pixels for manual focus support. Lastly, it would be nice to transfer the photos to the WiFi network to either store or direct print of these photo's. I am so pleased with the quality of the photos produced by the SX-50. Thank You Canon!

The nearly perfect camera
This camera is almost perfect for the main use I intend it for--bird photography/identification. The two things that need improvement are: 1) manual focus. Wildlife is often in trees or bushes and autofocus won't work. The manual focus is almost impossible to manage. Either the wheel moves a little and takes me to a different function, or I can't find the controls quick enough when using the veiwfinder. What is needed are two buttons on the front with that fundtion only, and easily found. (Or a focus ring on the lens--best solution but will never happen.) 2) A little higher pixel count, 16 MP or so. I often need to zoom in quite a bit after the pic is shot (even at full telephoto setting) and it starts to get pretty fuzzy.
