Great carry around camera
This a great all in one carry around camera. I also own the older SX1 and SX40HS, and this camera improves on both.
The SX1 has a 35mm equivalent 24-560mm lens, has great image quality, great video, and shoots RAW files, but the downfall in my view was AA batteries which had a very short useful life (relative to a Lithium Ion battery) and always seemed to die at the wrong moment. There was no battery charge indicator other than an "idiot" light that would flash as the battery died.
Then a few versions later came the SX40HS. Great camera, battery charge indicator, Lithium Ion battery, 35mm equivalent 24-840mm lens, great image quality, great features, great video... but no RAW.
Now we have this little gem the SX50HS which in my view finally completes the picture for the perfect carry around camera with an even longer lens range, battery charge indicator, Lithium Ion battery with remarkable life, great image quality, great video, great features and shoots RAW files!
This camera boasts remarkable image quality from a very small chip. Does it compare to the image quality I get from my 1DS Mark III or 5D Mark III? No. Did I expect it to? No. But for the all the amazing features packed into this camera the bottom line for me is that there are many great images that HAVE been captured because of the portability and range of this camera which might have been missed otherwise, as I don't regularly tote around the 20 - 30 pounds of gear that would be needed to cover this lens range on my full frame DSLRs.

I Love This Camera!
I had the sx 40 for several years then I purchased the canon rebel eos and returned it after one week for my sx50. Great camera you will not get anywhere else for the zoom with that price.

Amazing camera !
I was looking for a camera that would be easy to carry around daily , offer a tilting LCD , have a long zoom , RAW image mode , a good processor , offer a lot of shooting modes / scenes , 1080p video , flash hot shoe , was built sturdy , and was affordable. Well , after much research it was clear that this camera met and exceeded my expectations.
I like exploring new places , going to amusement parks , hiking .. and it is very nice to have a camera such as the SX50HS that has the ability to capture anything that catches my eye beautifully , without having to carry the bulk and weight of several lenses. The cameras 24mm - 1200mm range should meet most photographers zoom needs.
The camera is light weight , well balanced , with easy / quick access to most functions. For day trips the battery life is very good , and depending on your SD card size can take hundreds of images , or some high quality video.
The only thing I wish it came with was the USB to mini port on the camera , but you can find them for just a few bucks. I also added a Canon lens hood , but the length is a little shorter than I would like.
Bottom line .. if you are a photographer looking for a camera for day trips , Disneyland , beach , whatever .. you will be very hard pressed to find an affordable camera that packs these many features into such an unobtrusive / compact unit. And , you will NOT find another competing compact / bridge camera that can match the lens of the Canon SX50HS.
With all of the features , plus the 12.1 CMOS sensor , and the DIGIC 5 processer .. this is an incredible value. Just buy one !

Great Camera
Buy it!!! You cannot go wrong with this camera. The pictures are so clear. A lot of the abilities available on professional cameras can be done on this the SX50 - but at a much lower price.
Thanks to Canon for the continued quality - allowing us to record the memories.
