Perfect standard zoom
I bought this lens as standard zoom for my 7d and I compared it first with my 35mm f/1.4L and my EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM. At 35mm the difference in terms of resolution in comparison to the fixed-focus lens at f/5.0 are very low and virtually negligible. The lens is tac sharp even wide open. At 70mm, the 70-300mm lens shows only a marginal advantage. CA is very low. At 24mm, barrel distortion is clearly visible but seems to be normal for this type of lens. This distortion can be corrected during post procession. Over all, this lens meets well the high expectations I had as standard zoom lens for an APS-C sensor camera.
