Canon Generation Green

Generation Green is Canon's new environmental initiative. This program encompasses imageCLASS Laser Printers, PIXMA Inkjet Printers, and Scanners. Generation Green is designed to provide business partners, customers and consumers a way to learn about the environmentally-friendly approach Canon is taking in designing many of its current and future products. The imageCLASS D1150 has the following Generation Green characteristics:
- Auto-Duplexing - Using automatic two-sided printing and copying can save you up to 50% of your paper supply.
- 4-in-1, 2-in-1 Printing - This option allows users to place multiple pages on one page, saving up to 75% of your paper supply.
- PC Faxing - Send documents directly from your PC to a fax machine to reduce paper and print usage.
- Energy Saving Mode - When the imageCLASS D1150 enters Energy Saving Mode, it has a low power consumption of 3 watts of energy.
- On-Demand SURF Technology - On-Demand SURF (Surface Rapid Fixing) technology uses a linear ceramic heater that heats instantly for fast warm up speeds and Quick First Prints. This results in up to a 75% reduction in energy consumption compared to conventional roller-fixing systems.
- Toner Saving Mode - When the imageCLASS D1150 is switched into the toner saving mode, it allows for up to a 20% more economical toner usage.
- AIRSHELL Cartridge Packaging - AIRSHELL is packaging material for our imageCLASS toner cartridges that utilizes air cushioning. It reduces product package sizes, helps to improve shipping efficiency and reduces CO2 emissions generated during transport by approximately 23% to 49%.
- Toner Cartridge Recycling Program - Canon was the first in the printing industry to create a toner cartridge recycling program. Canon toner cartridges are 100% recovered with zero landfill waste.
- Hardware Recycling Program - Canon is committed to the world community and the belief that we are building a better world for future generations. We want to work with our customers to ensure appropriate recycling of certain imageCLASS products to help improve the environment and our local communities.
- Refurbishing Program - The Canon refurbishing facility manages waste stream processes for Canon products, so Canon has full control over recovery and salvage for imageCLASS products, not third-party vendors.
- ENERGY STAR® - Qualified products are 25% more efficient than conventional models. By using less energy these products reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save energy as well as money. The imageCLASS D1150 automatically enters low-power mode when not in use.
- RoHS Compliant - This is a directive from the European Union that restricts the use of hazardous materials found in electronic products. This product restricts the use of cadmium, mercury, lead, hexavalent chromium, Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB), and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE).
- ISO 14001 - We currently hold the largest Consolidated Certification to the ISO 14001 Standard for our Environmental Management Systems in the world with over 700 Canon companies certified to the Standard.

good printer poor Canon support
I've had the D1150 for nearly two years now. It is well built and rarely jams. Canon does a poor job of supporting new OS releases--especially Mac OSX. And Canon has never released a firmware upgrade for the D1150. It badly needs a firmware upgrade to improve envelope printing and network setup.

No network scanning = FAIL
Bought this copier to use in our small business. We really were most concerned with copying and liked the 2-sided function. The description says it has networking capabilities, faxing and scanning. Too bad it doesn't say it can't network scan...only usb. That really doesn't work in any multi-computer set up. We would not have gotten this machine knowing that. It feels like we have been cheated. We researched quite a bit and NOWHERE did we read you can't network scan. On the plus side, it does copy well and is reasonably fast and quiet.

Major Issues Printing Envelopes
For 2 years I have been unable to print non-standard sized envelopes with this printer. I see others have the same issue with this printer. Probably a good idea to have a 2nd printer dedicated to envelop printing. This one works well for standard duplex printing.

second canon copier, good value
When the printer works, its great. But it gives a person a hard time printing labels or envelope. The machine beeps and asks you to stick an envelope in, choose the non-existent envelope setting, and refuses to print it, same issue with labels. I can choose foolscap paper but not an envelope in the settings, believe it or not. Sadly, I have to resort to a $25 ink jet printer that does a better job for envelopes. Canon needs to take out the complexity and print an envelope when the computer orders it to. Other than that, it works fine, great print quality and fortunately scans with a single touch of a button. Copies great.
