Canon Generation Green
Generation Green is Canon's new environmental initiative. This program encompasses imageCLASS Laser Printers, PIXMA Inkjet Printers, and Scanners. Generation Green is designed to provide business partners, customers and consumers a way to learn about the environmentally-friendly approach Canon takes in designing many of its current and future products. The imageCLASS MF4450 has the following Generation Green characteristics:
- Auto-Duplexing - Using automatic 2-sided printing and copying can save you up to 50% of your paper supply.
- 4 in 1, 2 in 1 Printing - This option allows users to place multiple pages on 1 page, saving up to 75% of your paper supply.
- PC Faxing - Send documents directly from your PC to a fax machine to reduce paper and print usage.
- Energy Saving Mode - When the imageCLASS MF4450 enters Energy Saving Mode, it has a low power consumption of 3 watts
of energy in Energy Saving Mode.
- On-Demand SURF Technology - On-Demand (Surface Rapid Fixing) technology uses a linear ceramic heater that heats
instantly for fast warm up speeds and Quick First Prints. This results in up to a 75% reduction in energy consumption compared
to conventional roller-fixing systems.
- Toner Saving Mode - When the imageCLASS MF4450 is switched into the toner saving mode, it allows for up to a 20% more
economical toner usage.
- Toner Cartridge Recycling Program - Canon was the first in the printing industry to create a toner cartridge
recycling program. Canon toner cartridges are 100% recovered with zero landfill waste.
- Hardware Recycling Program - Canon is committed to the world community and the belief that we are building a better
world for future generations. We want to work with our customers to ensure appropriate recycling of certain imageCLASS products
to help improve the environment and our local communities.
- Refurbishing Program - The Canon refurbishing facility manages waste stream processes for Canon products, so Canon
has full control over recovery and salvage for imageCLASS products, not third-party vendors.
- ENERGY STAR® - Qualified products are 25% more efficient than conventional models. By using less energy these
products reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save energy as well as money. The imageCLASS MF4450 automatically enters low-power mode
when not in use.
- RoHS Compliant - This is a directive from the European Union that restricts the use of hazardous materials found in
electronic products. This product restricts the use of cadmium, mercury, lead, hexavalent chromium, Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB),
and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE).
- ISO 14001 - We currently hold the largest Consolidated Certification to the ISO 14001 Standard for our Environmental
Management Systems in the world with over 700 Canon companies certified to the Standard.

very solid performance
despite reading some disappointing reviews on the 4450, I purchased it anyway. Have been using it for approx. 6 months for by home business, printing mortgage documents...mostly text lots of ink coverage and output legibility is critical. Am very satisfied. Printing over 3,000 pages per month...using Canon cartridges...mine are lasing about 1800 pages. Don't want to risk going to off brand toners. Would definitely recommend.

BAD PURCHASE FOR ME
Really not worth the effort it took to carry it in to the house. It can copy, but I've never been able to make it print or fax. I'm not an amateur at this. I've successfully installed and used probably 12-15 printing devices at home and probably another 50 or so at work, all with no difficulties.

The printer works great. The Scanner however is absolutely terrible. I didn't mind having to program it from the printer and my computer as it is all located with in arms reach. It is the failure to actually scan through the feed function and failure to scan through manual feed of mulitple pages. The feed function if it processed all pages often would miss pages (blanks) and the manual feed for multiple pages would close out on me leaving me with multiple attachments for one document or the need to start over. This was mentioned in other reviews and I disregarded as I had other alternatives.

Very pleased
When my previous printer died in the middle of purchasing a home, I had to move quickly. I was particularly tired of having to replace 4 ink cartridges when I print black most of the time, so made the leap to laser. Another office I'd worked in had used a Canon for the accounting dept, and never had it mess up checks and important forms the way some others had, so I chose this one. Set up was simple, ad I've had no issues in 5 months. I love being able to scan a stack of pages easily with the feeder. It is SUPER quiet and easy to use. Glad I got it when I did.
