Smooth, high-quality video clips can be captured at Full HD (1920x1080), HD (1280x720) or VGA (640x480) resolutions. The Face Detection feature is available in movie mode for retaining excellent focus of the faces in your clips. Additional features include video with stereo sound and a convenient dedicated movie button to instantly start recording video.
Video recorded in HD exhibit approximately 3x the resolution of those recorded in VGA. PowerShot cameras equipped with HD video capability offer you the complete high definition experience.

Intelligent IS makes achieving steady pictures even easier during handheld shooting. It analyzes camera movement and applies the best shake correction method for the shooting situation to keep your HD video smooth and steady. When recording video, the system automatically selects among Dynamic, Powered, Macro and Tripod IS modes. Dynamic mode is effective for video recording at wide-angle focal lengths, suppressing the unwanted camera shake that typically occurs when shooting while walking. Powered mode compensates for hand movement when recording video at the telephoto end of the zoom range, where camera shake is magnified. Macro (Hybrid) mode corrects for shift-type camera shake that typically occurs in close-up shooting. When Tripod mode is selected, the image stabilizer is stopped because it is unnecessary.

Improved Dynamic IS
Optimized to keep video clear and shake-free, especially while walking and with the subject nearby, the improved Dynamic IS on the PowerShot SX50 HS compensates for horizontal tilt, vertical pitch and rotational movement centered on the optical axis. And on the PowerShot SX280 HS, Dynamic IS has been advanced to keep video crisp and steady when shooting while walking or shooting from a vehicle. The advanced Dynamic IS on the PowerShot SX280 HS uses a combination of optical and digital correction for five-axis image stabilization, providing greater compensation for roll blurring, tilt distortion and shift blur. The result is beautifully clear and steady video.

Select new PowerShot cameras support video capture in MP4 format. Enabled by the advanced DIGIC 6 Image Processor, MP4 video recording uses the MPEG-4-AVC/H.264 codec, which provides higher compression than the MOV format, reducing data size to allow more video to fit on a memory card. MP4 videos feature improved image quality and allow for easy viewing on a number of devices – from smartphones to tablets to laptops and computers. MP4 videos can also be easily shared due to their smaller file size and wide range of compatibility, and uploaded to social networking sites. Full HD video is also supported in MP4 with selectable frame rates of 60 fps or 30 fps; 1080p/60p video is extraordinarily smooth and rich, even when capturing fast action – perfect for viewing on a large screen.

Hybrid Auto brings enhanced image quality to the Movie Digest feature. Every time you shoot a still image, Movie Digest records up to four seconds of video, then automatically compiles one day's worth of clips into a single video. Hybrid Auto ensures the digest clips are beautiful and steady by utilizing a combination of Smart AUTO and Intelligent IS. Hybrid Auto automatically recognizes the scene and optimizes camera settings to capture the highest possible image quality, resulting in properly exposed, crisp 720p HD video.

The Apple® movie format, iFrame, is supported on select PowerShot models. Videos recorded in the iFrame format are designed for optimal performance in iMovie '09® and iMovie '11®. Video files are smaller yet also retain high-resolution quality, making them easier to import and edit and upload onto social networking sites. iFrame can be used with compatible Mac and PC applications.

Enjoy watching the HD videos and still images captured on your PowerShot camera directly on your HDTV; simply connect the camera to the HDTV with a Mini-HDMI Cable. The cable lets you experience HD footage with no analog degradation of image or audio in the signal, and displays up to 130 images at once. Select PowerShot models also support HDMI-CEC technology. You'll be able to control the playback of your images and videos on a CEC-enabled HDTV using the TV's remote control. (CEC – Consumer Electronic Control – is part of the HDMI specification, enabling components in a system to communicate with one another.)
