Genuine Canon HD Video Lens
The Canon name is synonymous with optical excellence. More than seven decades of manufacturing lenses for professional broadcast and photography have given Canon superiority in its optical products, and a legendary reputation among professional videographers and photographers. Every Canon HD Video Lens uses an aspherical lens and low-dispersion glass to achieve low chromatic aberration with high resolution, as well as super spectra coating technology to lower flare and ghosting. A gradation ND system ensures better exposure in bright shooting situations. Select camcorders also feature an iris diaphragm, producing highly expressive shots with sharply focused subjects and beautifully blurred backgrounds. HD Video Lens

Canon Full HD CMOS Image Sensor
VIXIA High Definition camcorders have a decided edge thanks to longstanding Canon expertise in the design and manufacture of CMOS Image Sensors. Their superb performance ensures Full HD video that is stunningly lifelike, with brilliant clarity in every detail.

Select VIXIA camcorders feature the Canon HD CMOS Pro Image Sensor, a 1/3-inch native 1920 x 1080 image sensor that incorporates technology proven in Canon’s professional-level camcorders. Unlike image sensors found in competitive camcorders, HD CMOS Pro uses fewer pixels, which are significantly larger and more sensitive, resulting in superb low-light performance and a wide dynamic range.

Found on the new VIXIA HF G20 camcorder, the latest generation HD CMOS Pro Image Sensor features improvements to the microlenses and color filter allowing for a 20% increase in light capture at each photodiode. Improvements at each pixel site have resulted in a 20% improved low-light performance*—to capture outstanding detailed video with excellent color reproduction, wide dynamic range and minimal noise even in dim lighting.

* Compared to the Canon HD CMOS Pro Image Sensor used in Canon’s VIXIA HF G10 Camcorder.

Outstanding Video Resolution – The effective number of pixels in the HD CMOS Pro Image Sensor is exactly equal to 1920 x 1080, the resolution of Full High Definition video. Because there is no need to resize the image captured by the sensor, Full HD video is recorded with exceptionally high resolution.

Superb Low-Light Performance – Because the pixel dimensions are precisely those needed to capture Full HD, each pixel site is larger and more sensitive to light. This makes it possible to capture high-quality video even in dim lighting.

Wide Dynamic Range – The larger pixel area also enables more light to be stored, making it possible to detect and capture a wider range of tonal values. Both highlights and shadows are thus reproduced more accurately, and skin tones are captured with fine gradation.

Canon DIGIC DV III Image Processors
DIGIC DV Image Processors have long been at the heart of Canon imaging excellence, providing exceptional color and clarity to both video and photos. The DIGIC DV III Image Processor delivers stunningly realistic color reproduction and sophisticated noise reduction for exceptional low-light performance. It is also the high-speed engine that powers a variety of Canon technologies including Smart AUTO, Touch & Track, Genuine Canon Face Detection and Cinema-Look Filters. The latest and most advanced Canon HD Image Processor, the DIGIC DV 4 Image Processor captures more light for brighter, noise-free images even in dark scenes. Dramatically increased processing power lets you record in both MP4 and AVCHD formats simultaneously, as well as supports the application of technologies such as Cinema-Look Filters and Touch Decoration post capture.

Without Powered IS

Canon’s sophisticated SuperRange Optical Image Stabilizer corrects camera shake instantly, so even handheld video taken at long focal lengths is sharp and steady. Dynamic SuperRange OIS takes shake correction to a whole new level. It provides continuous adjustment throughout the entire zoom range to correct an even broader range of motion. Extra compensation is applied at wide-angle focal lengths to help eliminate unwanted vibration common with walking. A newly improved Dynamic Image Stabilization mode found in the new VIXIA HF R-Series camcorders now stabilizes rotational camera shake – horizontal, vertical and roll axis – to ensure smooth, distortion-free video, even while walking. Additionally, Powered IS provides an even higher level of compensation for subtle hand movement at the telephoto end, so video is steady across the zoom range.

Intelligent IS
Intelligent IS makes it easy to shoot clear, sharply focused video, even in situations that typically cause camera shake. The Intelligent IS system analyzes the shooting situation for you, then automatically switches to the image stabilization method best able to produce sharp, steady video. There are four IS systems that cover the range of shooting situations.
