Canon shares your commitment. With the imageRUNNER ADVANCE Series, Canon has developed leading-edge technologies with a stronger environmental focus. For every stage of the product lifecycle, Canon has created solutions that reduce its environmental footprint - and yours.

Reduction of CO2 emissions

Through its Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) System,
Canon has lowered CO2 emissions by more that 30%
over previous models by focusing on each stage
of the product life cycle, including manufacturing,
energy use, and logistics. These products are designed
to be the smallest and lightest in their class, with less
packaging to make transportation more efficient.

Reduction of CO2
emissions

Eco-friendly design

Product Life Cycle

Canon is making a difference through creative
ecological thinking. The imageRUNNER ADVANCE
models employ certain components fabricated
with 100% recycled plastic from retired products.
Canon's innovative green technologies also include
bio-based plastic, a plant-derived compound that
replaces certain petroleum-based plastic parts.

A greener way to work

A visionary company, Canon knows that the world
and the workplace need a greener workflow. The
imageRUNNER ADVANCE Series delivers just that.
Now organizations across the globe can seamlessly
share and distribute digital documents. And because
you can preview files prior to printing, changes can
be made before comitting toner to paper to avoid
print errors. Administrators can even encourage duplex
printing to help reduce waste and save paper as well
as optimize color usage throughout the enterprise.

Easy integration

Greater energy efficiency

From the inside out, the imageRUNNER ADVANCE
Series is designed for high energy efficiency and
stellar performance. The combination of Canon's
fusing technologies and new pQ or pO toners
helps to reduce overall energy consumption by
minimizing heat and power requirements. The
Series' new duplex color image reader captures
superb-quality images at impressive speeds
while using less energy than ever. With advanced
technologies present in each model, the Series
meets ENERGY STAR standards.

Greater energy
efficiency

Reducing pollution

All suppliers are required to meet Canon's stringent
Green Procurement policy and environmental
terms. This helps Canon exceed the toughest
global standards set by the EU RoHS Directive,
which requires the restriction of six specified
hazardous substances. Canon currently restricts
the use of 33 such substances.

Advanced Technology
Similar to the imageRUNNER ADVANCE Color models, the new imageRUNNER ADVANCE 8000 and 6000 Series monochrome models employ a host of new technologies designed to improve the end-user experience while also streamlining workplace efficiency. In addition to the space-saving imageRUNNER ADVANCE design profile, the new models incorporate a Full Color SVGA TFT Control Panel, with a customizable user interface, Main Menu keys for easy access to popular functions and a Quick Menu key to help simplify workflow and share frequently used jobs or functions within a workgroup using one-touch buttons. The new imageRUNNER ADVANCE models utilize "pO" toner in conjunction with the twin-sleeve technology employed in Canon's black-and-white imagePRESS line to faithfully reproduce detailed images and text, display ultra-smooth gradations and ensure toner is evenly distributed across the page throughout the entire print run. For detail-oriented projects, the new models also provide true 1,200 x 1,200 dpi resolution and Auto Gradation Adjustment for smooth, accurate, consistent output.

Utilizing the components of imageRUNNER ADVANCE Essentials, device or fleet administrators are able to streamline their document workflow and maintain higher levels of monitoring and device control, which are critical aspects of light production and high-volume office environments seeking to improve efficiency and reduce overall document management costs. Additionally, all new models support Canon's MEAP technology, allowing for greater integration with customer's business processes and with leading third-party software applications.

  • Reducing Carbon Emissions – Through Canon’s Life Cycle Assessment system, the new series is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 30 percent over previous models by focusing on each stage of manufacturing, energy use and logistics.  These models, which are designed to be the smallest and lightest in their class, with less packaging to make transportation more efficient, are the first Canon offerings to make use of 100 percent recycled plastics and bio-plastic materials in certain parts within the new devices.

Canon Managed Document Services Release

CANON U.S.A. LAUNCHES NEW MANAGED DOCUMENT SERVICES INITIATIVE

New Unified Worldwide Offering Delivers Common Menu, Delivery Methodology and Services to Help Advance Office Efficiency and Reduce Total Cost of Ownership

Las Vegas, September 22, 2009 – Setting a new standard for delivering managed print services to regional and global customers, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital document imaging and advanced office solutions, today launched Canon Managed Document Services (Canon MDS), a new unified, global initiative for outsourced print and document management services.

In concert with Canon Inc.’s recent global announcement consisting of a standard service menu and methodology, Canon MDS provides the infrastructure, tools and support to serve small to enterprise offices and CRD environments on a global scale, while also serving the needs of customers with a local geography.  Based on a common menu of tools and services, the Canon MDS offering evaluates a customer’s needs and ensures continuous improvements through a five- phased approach, including:

  1. Discover and Analyze
  2. Design
  3. Deploy and Transition
  4. Support and Manage
  5. Evaluate and Review

According to the Rob Sethre, senior analyst, the Photizo Group, a managed print services research firm, “MPS is the fastest growing segment of the imaging industry, growing at a compound annual rate of 30 percent.  Although historically MPS has been targeted to mainly large accounts, Photizo anticipates that MPS will become increasingly popular with small- and medium-sized enterprises, thereby putting dealers who offer these services in excellent position to capture a larger share of customer opportunities.”

As small- and medium-sized business customers look to take advantage of managed services models, Canon MDS empowers its network of authorized dealers to provide document services by packaging sophisticated tools and technologies that can easily be leveraged in customer deployments.  In the U.S., Canon has been successfully delivering managed print services to many top-tier organizations in the region for several years through its Canon Business Solutions subsidiary.  Now with a common menu, Canon can offer its global customers a consistent approach and range of services regardless of their location.

“Today as customers increasingly recognize the monetary and workplace efficiency benefits of migrating to an outsourced solution, customers and dealers alike are looking to print manufacturers to deliver the complete print and document workflow solutions that will help reduce total cost of ownership and improve overall efficiency,” said Sam Yoshida, vice president and general manager, Imaging Systems Group, Canon U.S.A.  “This new Canon MDS offering, in combination with the technological innovations available with our products, such as the new imageRUNNER ADVANCE Series, will allow our customers and sales channels to tap into a single-point-of-contact to utilize and leverage the regional and global expertise and resources of Canon like never before for outsourced services.”

The Canon MDS offering leverages several innovative technologies and tools that uniquely combine Canon developed device functions, software solutions and professional services capabilities.  They include:

·       imageRUNNER ADVANCE Content Delivery System, which offers capabilities for remote services, including remote installation of imageRUNNER ADVANCE firmware updates, embedded software options and MEAP applications

·       imageWARE Enterprise Management Console with Plug-ins, which can be used for on-site enterprise device management, customer-managed meter collection and service alerts delivery

·       imageWARE Remote, which enables the automatic submission of meter data and service alerts for pre-emptive support and consumables fulfillment, e-Billing functionality and integration with leading third-party Dealer ERP systems, such as OMD and e-automate

·       uniFLOW Output Manager is an intelligent and highly scalable print management software suite with modules for Universal Secure Printing, Rules-Based Routing, Authentication, Desktop Accounting and Print Center Management

·       Canon U.S.A. Professional Services brings the expertise to design and implement managed document services, from analyzing a customer’s print environment and developing new designs to reporting results and identifying areas for future improvements

·       Canon MDS Knowledge Portal provides a secure Web site for business development and support, including business plans, training modules, best practices, white papers, case studies, industry analysis and more

The Canon MDS initiative will provide the framework and know-how required for Canon and its channel partners to effectively deliver managed services to clients. Based upon this introduction, Canon intends to capture a larger share of the growing market for outsourced document related services.

The imageRUNNER ADVANCE Series, a new document services platform that seamlessly blends hardware, software and service to advance modern business environments, is the first solution from Canon developed using the Company’s Life Cycle Assessment product design system.  From production, usage, and end-of-life, Canon’s Life Cycle Assessment system is designed to assess a product’s CO2 emissions and explore avenues to reduce those emissions and minimize environmental impacts at various stages of a product’s life, helping end-users to maximize cost and resource efficiency.

“Committed to the corporate philosophy of Kyosei, Canon strives to achieve harmony between people, our products and the environment, and our latest line of imageRUNNER ADVANCE products takes this commitment to the next level,” said Sam Yoshida, vice president and general manager, Imaging Systems Group, Canon U.S.A.  “Canon views superior product development and environmental responsibility as working hand-in-hand, and a natural obligation as we work to fulfill the expectations of our stakeholders, beginning with our customers, our employees and the local communities in which we operate.

“Our new product line is proof positive that with innovative design and smarter technologies we can offer cleaner, more environmentally conscious products that continue to meet customers’ growing needs,” added Yoshida.

Canon’s commitment to the environment and green technologies is reflected throughout every phase of the product life-cycle of these new models, including:

  • Reducing Carbon Emissions – Through the Life Cycle Assessment system, the new series is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 30 percent over previous models by focusing on each stage of manufacturing, energy use and logistics.  These models, which are designed to be the smallest and lightest in their class, with less packaging to make transportation more efficient, are the first Canon offerings to make use of 100 Percent Recycled Plastics and Bio-Plastic materials in select parts.
  • Maximizing Energy Efficiency – The series, which meets and exceeds ENERGY STAR standards, realizes an up to 75 percent reduction1 in overall power consumption over previous models thanks to a number of advanced technologies, including the use of White LED Array technology in the devices’ image reader, and the use of Canon’s Proprietary Image Sensor technology versus traditional CCD sensors.  Also, new fusing technologies reduce overall power consumption in the new models to 1W or less in Sleep Mode*.
  • Reducing Pollution – These devices exceed the toughest global regulations set by the European Union’s RoHS Directive in restricting hazardous substances and minimize the use of lead in steel, copper and aluminum materials.  The RoHS Directive requires the restriction of six specified hazardous substances, while Canon currently restricts the use of 24 such substances.
  • Conserving Resources – Each imageRUNNER ADVANCE model comes equipped with a number of paper-, toner- and energy-saving features, aiding in cutting costs and conserving resources.  Also, with long-life parts and high-yielding supplies, customers can maximize uptime and reduce the amount of materials consumed during the product life cycle.

Canon’s Commitment to the Environment

Canon’s commitment to the environment is an extension of its corporate philosophy of Kyosei – all people, regardless of race, religion or culture, harmoniously living and working together into the future. Canon U.S.A. protects future generations by helping to preserve natures most valuable resources through the support of a wide range of environmental education and conservation initiatives including:  the Canon Envirothon, one of North America’s largest high school environmental education competitions; the Arbor Day Foundation; the PBS NATURE Series; and scientific research and education programs at Yellowstone National Park.  Canon also established the industry’s first and longest-running Toner Cartridge Return Program in 1990.  To- date, more than 190,000 tons of toner cartridges have been diverted from landfills.  In addition, the Company has one of the world’s largest Environmental Management Systems with more than 700 locations under the ISO-14001 Certification.  For more information, visit www.canon.com/environment.
