To enhance focusing capability, the VIXIA HF R200 also features Focus Assist. This helps in capturing your subject in razor-sharp focus. It works by providing a 2x magnification of your subject, which is automatically cancelled when you start recording. This is a feature normally found in professional broadcast-quality cameras.
Filter threads on the lens of the VIXIA HF R200 give it compatibility with the Canon TL-H34 II tele-converter and WD-H34 II wide-converter. With these converters, you can expand the shooting range of the lens for greater creative options.
Built-in Electronic Lens Cover
The built-in Electronic Lens Cover means you never have to go looking for your lens cover again. Turn your camcorder on and the lens cover automatically opens. Turn it off, and the cover closes. It couldn’t be simpler.
The Intelligent Lithium-Ion Battery accurately indicates remaining battery time down to the minute.
Never miss a quickly unfolding shot again, as it’s possible to shoot the moment the LCD is opened. No worries about using up power with Quick Start – by keeping the LCD screen closed between shots, Quick Start allows you to save battery power so you get longer battery life.
The Pre-Record feature places your VIXIA HF R200 in a stand-by "pre-roll" mode. With this feature the camcorder continuously records three seconds of video to memory before you even press the record button. When you start recording, the additional video is recorded too. It will be easier than ever to capture the moment when the bat hits the ball at the start of that home run.
Pixela Video Browser Software is bundled with the VIXIA HF R200. You can easily perform a variety of functions, including AVCHD Editing in which you can trim, reorder, and combine scenes, as well as add music, titles, and transitions. This software also allows you to play your AVCHD movies on your computer and will let you share copies of your movie with friends and family through flash memory to hard drive copying. Transfer and store your movie onto your computer's hard drive with the software and easily convert your high definition video to standard definition video as well. This software will also assist you in converting video to the optimum resolution for transmission over the Internet.
The bundled application is compatible with Windows XP (Service Pack 2 and 3), Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
video file output not standard
worst camera Ive ever used, video output file is a unknown .mts file, useless to all video editing software programs, if you view spec sheet of product no where does it say it creates a .mts file, it actually states it use a more standard mp4 file, so to me its a lie. so now for me to do anything uesful with this movie file I have to spend a large amount of my time converting it from a .mts file to a standard mp4 or wmv file, plus the user interface on camera is terribly, very clumsy

use this for some quick conference video coverage, a few short interviews, people at the podium in meetings, etc...I dislike that many of the important features (dual card slot) reset to their default modes after powering off....meaning you have to check all your settings for relay recording every time you use it, but I love the external mic capability and the audio level controls. also nice and light and good picture, decent sound!!

Really a nice Camcorder
I've had my camcorder HFR200 for a few months now. Coming from an older HI8 camcorder this one is just wonderful. Love the fact I can use 2 memory cards. I'm just an average home user and for what I need this camcorder has everything I could possibly want to take and share family videos. The anti-shake feature is amazing. I was using the camcorder to take video of a drive through our town for a friend in England. Even in my older car there is hardly any shake at all in the finished video. I was astounded at this. I was just sure it would be unwatchable from shaking and such. The finished video is so smooth, makes it look like I was riding in some luxury car with a great suspension system :) It's light weight, it is very easy to use and carry around. I wouldn't trade it for anything. If you are looking for a professional camcorder then spend the money and get one designed for that but if you are just an average home user or even an amateur movie maker then I really think you will benefit from this camcorder. The features it has are mind boggling to say the least, it just does everything.
One of the only cons I can even think of is what was stated before in another review. That is being unable to use a longer life battery but who knows in a couple of years Canon just may come out with a longer life battery that will slide right into this camcorder increasing it's battery use time. With electronics getting smaller and smaller it just may happen. The only other thing that my old HI8 had that this doesn't is an external light for inside or night shots. So far it hasn't seemed to matter as even indoors the video looks quite good. I guess I would just feel better if there was an external light already built in I could use if I felt I needed to.
As for connecting to TVs and such I haven't done that. I have just taken out the memory card and plugged it into my card reader on my computer. Had no trouble at all with that. Windows 7 x64 found the card and imported videos all on it's own. I don't plan to use the software that came with the camcorder. I use something else for editing and burning to disk.

Vixia HF R200-does it all
This is my most favorite camcorder. Its my 4th camcorder. It has all the features that are building excellent-video's. I would suggest that this camcorder is really suited for a Tripod--its Auto-features are very sensative. Not having any shake-or-jitter really brings the Hi-def vdeo to fruition. The Ext. MIC feature allows that both..INT MIC and Ext. MIC can be used at the same time. Or each a single device. There is a MIC-mixer also. This is a great BUY-with professional features. In a Super-Light-weight design.
