Story Creator assists you in the process of creating an organized and sophisticated video. Choose one of five different themes – Travel, Kids & Pets, Party, Ceremony, and Blog – and the camcorder provides a list of suggested scenes to shoot. After capturing your video, Story Creator helps you categorize and rate your scenes, making it easy to review, select and playback your favorites.
Auto Gain Control Limit allows you to set the maximum gain limit for the image sensor's sensitivity. With this function, brightness and noise can be balanced as required, and image quality can be maximized in low light situations.
Intelligent Lithium-Ion Battery accurately indicates remaining battery time down to the minute, so you won’t run out of power when you need it most.

Two years of use
I bought this primarily to get High Def shots of Christmas Lights since I do an animated display. Christmas Lights are tough on the Dynamic Range of any camera. If I go to Manual, set the focus to manual and set the exposure to -1.75 or -2.0 then I can get better than average shots.
Now, the format. Saves in AVCHD. I've heard that editing on a Mac is difficult - wouldn't know, but editing in Adobe Premiere Elements 12 is a snap and also in Adobe Premiere CS6 (wasn't in CS5).

Great Camera but bundled software from Pixela is terrible. I would not recommend this product because of the bundled software.

Outstanding product for a fair price
I have owned this camera since Oct. 2011. I bought it in Tokyo at a shop in Akihabara at the Yodobashi camera store. This detail is important because it guarantees that this is a genuine Canon camera and that it was made in Japan. Being made in Japan is important because only the top quality Canon products are actually manufactured in Japan. Thus, if you do buy one, at least make sure that it is "MADE IN JAPAN".
That being said, I have nothing but good things to say about this camera. As another reviewer put it, the camera is outstanding in low light conditions to the point that it matches or exceed the quality of significantly more expensive professional-level cameras. However, one of the most notable features of this camera is the "Optical" image stabilization. The key element of optical stabilization is that any shaking of the camera is corrected by moving the lens (or sensor) before the sensor converts the image into digital information. In this manner, the resultant image is incredibly steady and clear.
