AIM System with 45-point Area AF, 21-zone Metering & Eye Controlled Focus
The World's First 45-Point Area AF
Covering about 23 percent of the viewfinder screen, Canon's newest AF system provides the largest autofocus sensing area ever incorporated into a 35mm camera (as of September, 1998). Using 45 discrete focusing points, this system dramatically increases the camera's ability to deliver perfectly sharp images, especially with off-center and moving subjects. AF speed and sensitivity are also significantly improved.
High-Performance Eye Controlled Focus
Designed to work in conjunction with the 45-Point Area AF, Canon's new Eye Controlled Focus system offers much more intuitive operation and improved, real-time response. The user merely has to look at the subject to select the appropriate focusing point. Moreover, it works for both horizontal and vertical shots.
High-Speed, Quiet Film Transport
The EOS-3's built-in motor drive enables shooting at approximately 4.3 fps (frames per second). With the optional Power Drive Booster PB-E2 and Ni-MH Pack NP-E2, the maximum continuous shooting speed is exceptional: approximately 7 fps.
Sophisticated Exposure Control
Canon's exclusive AIM (Advanced Integrated Multi-point control) system is enhanced by a new 21-zone evaluative metering sensor that works together with 45-Point Area AF to deliver an unprecedented degree of exposure control precision. This advanced metering sensor is used to provide six different metering modes. Exposure control is further enhanced by seven AE shooting modes.
