With the large maximum aperture, excellent background blur is possible even with a fast shutter speed. The aspherical lens element makes the lens compact and corrects spherical aberrations. The image is sharp even at the edges. Lead-free glass is used.

Pros: Fast auto-focus, Superior build quality, Super-sharp images
This is my first lens away from T2i kit. It was a GREAT investment, the quality and feel of this lens is solid. The Focus is quick and silent and the focus ring is nothing to complain about. Before you buy, I suggest you do some research on Depth of Field. It will be something you will have to learn to understand if you plan on using F/3.5 or lower.
I am more than satisfied with this lens, it's the perfect everyday lens. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise
Pros: Fast auto-focus, Super-sharp images, lightweight
Cons: no hood included
I have a T1i and mostly use the 15-85mm lens. Recently faced with a holiday shopping weekend in Chicago, I knew I wanted to bring my camera, but not carry around a heavy lens all day. I also wanted something that would take great indoor shots, restaurants and bars, as well as wide enough for street shots. After much reserach, I selected this lens due to the f/1.8 and width of lens. The first shots I took were like "oh wow", the larger aperture that noticable. My weekend trip produced some wonderful pictures, and it handled all situations. It is now my indoor lens, while the 15-85 my outdoor lens. This lens has beautiful color and contrast, is very sharp and fast. I did outdoor night shots at 1/30 handheld and the shots are very sharp. I have not noticed much CA at all, only a shot or two, and it was only visible when enlarging the image to look for it. I am very pleased with this lens.
Pros: Fast auto-focus, great in low light condition, compact and solid
Cons: chromatic aberration, no lens hood as standard equipment
I bought this lens to replace the kit one, which came with my EOS450D. The difference is noticeable, esecially in focusing speed and low light performance. However the lens suffers from heavy chromatic aberration which is visible at almost any f-stop (easy to repair in post processing, but when using this lens on filmSLR - CA will be a problem). Yet I like it very much and currently it's my primary lens. I'd buy it again if had to ;) Shame, the lens hood needs to be bought separently though.
I bought this lens to use on my T1i instead of the kit lens, it's the only lens I use on it. The images are sharp, I shoot wide open much of the time for people in existing light situations and catching the moment and am very happy with the results. For scenics I will try to shoot at an f8 and the sharpness and quality are hard to beat. Would recommend this to a friend and would buy it again myself.
