Difficult to Install
I like the printer when it works. Every time I try to use this with a different computer, I can't get it to work. It installs, and the computer says it's working properly, but nothing prints. In 2 years, I have never gotten network scanning to work at all. The print quality on copying and USB scanning is poor. The original must be high print quality to get a decent copy.
If you can get it to print, the print quality is excellent. I'm still on the original toner cartridge that came with the printer, so it must full-size, not a small starter toner. It could also be because I can't get anything to print to use it.

Win2003install_fails
5600F ran fine on Win2003 box, but the 4730's software won't install. Paper handling problems led me to exchange repeatedly at BestBuy.

Desk Dog
OK, to be fair, the pros are: relatively fast, adequate print quality and small footprint.
The cons are: Very flimsy construction, especially the paper tray area. It will NEVER pull in paper evenly from the optional feed area. When I print checks, the lines are usually diagonal across the page. Looks real professional. <sarcasm>
Occasionally won't wake up to print, though I guess that fulfills it's energy saving feature. Dead=no energy use.
All you need to do is slide it forward on your desk and reset the power switch. Bonus exercise!
I wouldn't buy another printer from Canon if it were discounted 90%.
The menu options are ridiculous. The only way it could be more obscure is if were in morse code.
Funny that when the paper stop on the front on the unit is extended, it obscures the Canon logo. Planned? Probably

Scanner!!!
So it took me a little researching to figure out the scanner wasn't working. All it took was for me to hit the Scan button on the printer twice to change it to "USB Scanning" instead of "Network Scanning" and it worked perfectly. Love this printer, super fast printing, just wish it did color.
