Generation Green is Canon's new environmental initiative. This program encompasses eligible Scanners, PIXMA Inkjet Printers and imageCLASS laser printers. Generation Green is designed to provide business partners, customers and consumers a way to learn about the environmentally-friendly approach that Canon is taking to design many of its current and future products and solutions; for example, possible cost savings through energy efficiency. The iP3600 has the following Generation Green characteristics:
4 in 1, 2 in 1 Printing - This option allows users to place multiple pages on 1 page, saving up to 75% of your paper supply.
Reduction in Packaging - The packaging of the iP3600 has been reduced by 4.2% over the previous model, delivering shipping efficiencies of up to 23% percent. Downsizing the packaging helps reduces CO2 emissions and waste throughout the whole process of production, shipping, to selling.
Individual Ink Tanks - The individual ink tanks may reduce the amount of wasted ink from cartridges as compared to a composite 4 color cartridge, by allowing users to replace individual color tanks rather than entire color cartridges.
ENERGY STAR - Qualified products are 25% more efficient than conventional models. By using less energy, these products reduce greenhouse gas emissions and saves energy as well as money.
RoHS Compliance - This is a directive from the European Union that restricts the use of hazardous materials found in electronic products. This product contains no cadmium, mercury, lead, hexavalent chromium, Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB), or Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE).
Hardware Recycling Program - Canon is committed to the world community and the belief that we are building a better world for future generations. We want to work with our customers to help ensure appropriate recycling of products to help improve the environment and our local communities.
Refurbishing Program - The Canon U.S.A., Inc. refurbishing facility manages all waste stream processes for Canon products, so Canon has full control over recovery and salvage for Canon products, not third-party vendors.
This is the Canon printer to buy
Very fast print speed.
Clear ink cartridge allowing users to see ink level.
However, ink is too expensive and cartridges are now smaller than previous generations of Canon ink cartridges.

I have had this printer now for 2 years. Very dependable with good photo quality output. We have several canon printers throughout the house. This is our least expensive one the is my "beater". I lug it from work to our basement. Cant tell much difference in photo quality between this and our more expensive ones. This printer does run a litter slow but for the price and reliability you cant beat it!

Worked fine for three years, then...
This printer was as good as other printers I have owned, including E, H, O, P, and maybe a few other brands. The 'Photo Print' quality was outstanding, although I have not done very much of that type of printing. For three years text print quality was outstanding, but now the black ink nozzles cannot be cleaned, even with repeated deep cleaning. I understand that there is a "print head" that can can be replaced but there is no mention of this in the maintenance instructions. Searching eBay I find new print heads listed at prices higher than that of other brand new Canon printer models. I chose to buy one of those instead, since I do so little Photo Printing.
