Canon Generation Green
Generation Green is Canon's environmental initiative. This program encompasses eligible Scanners, PIXMA Inkjet Printers, and imageCLASS laser printers. Generation Green is designed to provide business partners, customers and consumers a way to learn about the environmentally-friendly approach Canon is taking to design many of its current and future products and solutions; for example, possible cost savings through energy efficiency. The MP640 has the following Generation Green characteristics:
- Auto-Duplexing (2-sided Printing) - Using this feature can save up to 50% of your paper supply.
- 4 in 1, 2 in 1 Printing - This option allows users to place multiple pages on 1 page, saving up to 75% of your paper supply.
- Individual Ink Tanks - The individual ink tanks may reduce the amount of wasted ink from cartridges as compared to a composite 4 color cartridge, by allowing users to replace individual color tanks rather than entire color cartridges.
- Quick Start - The energy efficient Quick Start feature makes it easy to start up your printer in a matter of seconds, making it more convenient to keep the printer off, thus reducing energy consumption.
- ENERGY STAR - Qualified products are 25% more efficient than conventional models. By using less energy, these products reduce greenhouse gas emissions and saves energy as well as money.
- RoHS Compliance - RoHS is a directive from the European Union that restricts the use of hazardous materials found in electronic products. This product contains no cadmium, mercury, lead, hexavalent chromium, Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB), or Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE).
- Hardware Recycling Program - Canon is committed to the world community and the belief that we are building a better world for future generations. We want to work with our customers to help ensure appropriate recycling of products to help improve the environment and our local communities.
- Refurbishing Program - The Canon U.S.A., Inc. refurbishing facility manages all waste stream processes for Canon products, so Canon has full control over recovery and salvage for Canon products, not third-party vendors.

not good
bottom paper feed broke
bottom drawer panel broke and wouldn't close
all ink cartridges have to be working, won't print just black
finally turned itself, off no power, can't get it to turn on again.
and of course we had just put in new ink

Don't Even Think About This One
I've had this printer for over 2 years. In that time I have come to loath it.
It will not hold the WiFi connection with any regularity and will not print from the USB cable.
I would NOT BUY THIS PRINTER AGAIN IF THEY GAVE IT TO ME!!!

Wastes Ink
While this printer has excellent functionality, it is incapable of printing in pure black and white (i.e. using ONLY the black cartridge). Using color for more intricate greyscale is fine, but I most often do not need this detail and find that constantly buying colored ink that I thought I was conserving is highly frustrating. Additionally, the printer does some kind of maintenance after most every print run, which-in my opinion-is unnecessary and overly time consuming, especially when wanting to print more than one document in succession.

Great until issues - Second machine...
I have purchased two of these machines because of the beautiful prints and ease of use. The second one has now broken as well with a different issue and I am very dissapointed.
