Accessibility

At Canon, we know firsthand that there is more to technology than exciting new products. Technology is also about new choices – decisions that have to be made about what is important to people.

Part of Canon Know How involves making technology approachable. Canon products are intended to empower people, to give them the ability to express ideas and achieve amazing things.

Canon is dedicated to providing access to all users and is continuously undergoing research and development to make Canon products as accessible as possible. We look forward to continuing to deliver more exciting advances to you in the 21st century.

Certain Canon products currently offer such user-friendly features such as front-loading paper cassettes, adjustable display contrasts, center raised numeric locators, remote keyboards, remote user interface and easily removable interiors for adding toner.

What is Section 508?

Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act mandates that electronic and information technology (E&IT) products and services developed, procured, maintained, or used by the Federal government allow Federal employees and members of the public with disabilities to have access to and use of Federal information and data that is comparable to the access and use available to non-disabled Federal employees and members of the public.

Exemptions:

Federal agencies may be exempt from compliance with Section 508 in the following situations:

  • Purchases for a national security system;

  • Incidental purchases for electronic and information technology in spaces frequented only by service personnel for maintenance, repair or occasional monitoring of equipment;

  • Situations in which purchasing compliant electronic and information technology would impose an undue burden on the procuring agency.

Canon’s Active Support of Section 508

Canon supports the Section 508 guidelines and is working conscientiously to take all necessary actions to conform to as many standards as possible.

Canon has been involved in the creation and maintenance of an industry-wide template to assess the accessibility features of individual products for each of the Section 508 rules.
