NEP CHOOSES
ALL CANON HD LENSES FOR
NEW SUPERSHOOTER 20HD MOBILE PRODUCTION UNIT
Ready To Produce ESPN’s “Sunday Night Football”
And Major Entertainment Events With Canon’s 100X Image
Stabilized Lens And More
LAKE SUCCESS, NEW YORK, March 18, 2003 -- NEP is outfitting
its new Supershooter 20HD truck exclusively with HD lenses
from Canon U.S.A. Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE:
CAJ). The Canon 100xs lenses on board will be among the
first in the world, helping to mark a historical advance
in HDTV production. Supershooter 20HD, operating in 720p,
and its Canon lenses will produce ESPN’s “Sunday
Night Football” along with many other sporting and
entertainment events, contributing to a dramatic increase
in HD production for 2003.
“We have always had great success with Canon,”
said George Hoover, senior vice president, operations and
engineering, NEP Supershooters. “Canon lenses consistently
get us great results for sports and entertainment, and the
support is extraordinary. We are especially excited about
adding the 100X to our roster. With its extremely low light
loss when zooming in tight, we’ll be able to see eyeball
to eyeball – even at 10 PM in the corner of the end
zone.”
The Canon DIGI SUPER 100xs, the world’s first triple-digit
zoom lens, will join large numbers of the Canon HDxs lenses,
including the DIGI SUPER XJ75xs and the famed DIGI SUPER
86xs that have made Canon synonymous with excellence in
sports and entertainment production, on the Supershooter
20HD.
All of Canon’s long lenses are equipped with the
same built-in Optical Image Stabilizer, or Shift-IS system,
that helped the 86xs transform production content, allowing
directors to capture dramatic, high impact long shots and
deliver them shake-free to the viewing audience. Available
on Canon’s HD portable HJ40x10B/HJ40x14B, as well
as on the new 100xs and XJ75xs, Shift-IS effectively neutralizes
camera shake due to wind, platform vibrations and even camera
operators’ breathing, all of which previously made
many tight shots virtually unusable.
“Every long lens now will be stabilized on ‘Sunday
Night Football’,” said Mr. Hoover. “Stadiums
are not stable platforms, and carts and scaffoldings shake,
rattle and roll.
Shift-IS is great in taking that out, and it doesn’t
have any drawbacks. It just delivers rock-solid images to
the viewers.”
With a long history delivering world-class optics and award-winning
support, Canon lenses were the clear choice for NEP as they
team with ESPN to raise HDTV production to the next level.
“The technical issues of HD have been resolved, and
now with proven hardware like Canon lenses, we can do a
lot more analysis and in-coverage than ever before,”
added Mr. Hoover. “Canon has been an integral part
of sports coverage for a long time, and we’re glad
to have them on board our new Supershooter 20HD.”
