Will Have Multiple 100X Lenses On Board
LAKE SUCCESS, NEW YORK, April 7, 2003 -- Lens history has
been made at
NAB 2003 (National Association of Broadcasters, April 7-10,
Las Vegas) with the American debut of the first-ever 100X
HDTV/SDTV lens, the Canon DIGISUPER 100xs from Canon U.S.A.,
Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE: CAJ).
A milestone technical achievement, the Canon DIGISUPER
100xs, or XJ100x9.3B IE-D, is the world’s first triple
digit zoom lens. Incorporating Canon’s superior Shift-IS
Image Stabilizer technology, the 100X is back-ordered and
in high demand. Several already are in place for the new
HD mobile production units by NCP, NEP and NMT for ABC/ESPN’s
heavy HD production schedule.
“Triple digit zoom lens performance was a barrier
that was never expected to be broken, and it took Canon
technology to make it happen,” said Gordon Tubbs,
assistant director, broadcast and communications division,
Canon U.S.A., Inc. “The 100X marks a natural evolution
in our offering of real-world tools that enhance coverage
and creativity. As the latest in our highly popular line
of XJ field lenses with our superior Shift-IS system, including
the DIGISUPER 86xs, 86xs TELE, and DIGISUPER 75xs, the DIGISUPER
100xs already is making an impact on HDTV and SDTV production.”
With the largest ever zoom range from wide angle to telephoto,
the Canon DIGISUPER 100xs joins the company’s expansive
line of XJ field lenses. Each lens brings Canon’s
legendary optics and future-proof HD/SD capability to the
production of sports, entertainment and other programming.
The DIGISUPER 100xs boasts a stunning focal length, 9.3~930mm
(18.6~1860mm using the 2X extender), while still retaining
virtually the same size and weight as the 86xs.
Important features include a speed of F/1.7, a weight of
23.5kg (51.8 lbs), and Canon’s revolutionary Image
Stabilization technology. This important technology adds
essential production value, especially at the telephoto
end, by providing viewers with shake free images that offer
incredible detail. The M.O.D. from lens front is 3.0 meters.
All of Canon’s long lenses are equipped with the
same built-in Optical Image Stabilizer, or Shift-IS system,
that helped the 86xs transform production content, allowing
directors to capture dramatic, high impact long shots and
deliver them shake-free to the viewing audience. Available
on Canon’s HD portable HJ40x10B/HJ40x14B, and on the
new 100xs and XJ75xs, Shift-IS effectively neutralizes camera
shake due to wind, platform vibrations and even camera operators’
breathing, all of which previously made many tight shots
virtually unusable.
To deliver world-class optics from any perspective, the
Canon DIGISUPER 100xs features the company’s unique
xs technology for better specs and lighter weight, courtesy
of the exclusive X-element and Power Optical System. All
Canon DIGISUPER lenses incorporate the company’s second
generation Digital Servo System, which delivers improved
operation ease through features like CAFS (Constant Angle
Focusing System), Speed Preset, Shuttle Shot and Framing
Preset, Digital Zoom Demand, Digital Focus Demand and ‘Endless’
Digital Focus Demand.
“The initial demand for the 100X – before it
has even been shown in America – has been spectacular,”
said Mr. Tubbs. “Production companies are excited
about making it a part of their mix of lenses.”
