ADVANCED LENSES FOR HD STUDIO AND
FIELD PRODUCTION
Highly Regarded 100xs, and Full Line of HDxs
Lenses To Be Shown,
Plus New J22ex7.6B e-IFxs Lens and NU-700N Network Controllable
P/T/Z System
LAKE SUCCESS, NEW YORK - NAB 2003 – April 7, 2003:
The most advanced lineup of HD lenses from Canon U.S.A.,
Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE: CAJ), will be on
display at NAB 2003, featuring the 100X, the world’s
first triple digit zoom lens. The 100X will be a centerpiece
of the latest fleet of all-Canon equipped HD trucks from
mobile production companies NCP, NEP and NMT, and will be
used extensively for network sports and entertainment events.
Other Canon lenses will include the range of HDxs long lenses
with Canon’s unique built-in Optical Image Stabilizer,
or Shift-IS system, as well as studio, field, and ENG lenses,
Canon’s HD-EC Electronic Cinematography lenses, the
new J22ex7.6B e-IFxs lens, NU-700N Network Controllable
P/T/Z system, and more.
Demand is already outpacing production for Canon’s
recently introduced
DIGISUPER 100X, or XJ100x9.3B IE-D, the broadcast lens with
the largest ever zoom range from wide angle to telephoto.
Incorporating Canon’s world-class optics and superior
Image Stabilizer (Shift-IS) technology, the 100X stood alone
as the major advance in HDTV and SDTV television production
for 2002, while enhancing Canon’s reputation as the
technology leader in broadcast lenses.
Also at NAB will be Canon’s DIGISUPER 86xs (XJ86x9.3B
IE) and DIGISUPER 86 TELExs. The 86xs immediately revolutionized
sports and entertainment shooting with its groundbreaking
zoom range, and has since won a huge following in HD and
SD broadcast production. The DIGISUPER 75xs (XJ75x9.3B)
received a warm welcome as the standard for long lenses
with optical stabilization, extending the line of must-have field production lenses from Canon. Joining the DIGI SUPER
line of lenses are Canon’s HJ40x10B IASD-V and HJ40X14B
IASD-V TELE, a powerful and lightweight pair which bring
Canon’s excellent imagery to the portable EFP world.
All of Canon’s long and EFP lenses are equipped with
the proven superiority of Canon’s built-in Optical
Image Stabilizer, or Shift-IS system, that helped the 86xs
transform production content, allowing directors to capture
dramatic, high impact long shots and deliver them shake-free
to the viewing audience. The unparalleled capabilities of
Canon’s Shift-IS HD lenses were another factor in
making them the exclusive choice of the latest HD trucks
from NCP, NEP and NMT. Shift-IS effectively neutralizes
camera shake due to wind, platform vibrations and even camera
operators’ breathing, all of which previously made
many tight shots virtually unusable. With Shift-IS, two
shake-detecting sensors for yaw and pitch help to move the
Shift-IS lens group horizontally and vertically to counteract
the image shake and maintain a totally stable picture, all
without increasing the overall size and weight of the master
lens.
For totally portable ENG/EFP production in HD or SD, also
on display will be the Canon HJ21x7.5B IRSD/IASD and HJ21x7.8B
IRSD/IASD and HJ11x4.7B IRSD/IASD. This powerful trio brings
the high specifications and light weight of Canon’s
HDxs system to the portable arena, as well as the highly
useful controls and advanced ergonomics of Digital Drive.
Canon’s SD line of telephoto, standard and ultra wide-angle
will also be shown at NAB 2003.
ENG/EFP performance has advanced to the next level with
the new Canon J22ex7.6B IRSD/IASD lens. The widest angle
portable telephoto lens ever produced, the J22ex7.6B for
SDTV is the first in Canon’s new e-IFxs broadcast
lens series. The design, which showcases enhanced digital
features, also emphasizes Canon’s commitment to minimize
environmental impact by incorporating lead free glass. Equipped
with an informational display and control paddle, e-IFxs
series users can customize the enhanced digital functions
with ease and precision, taking advantage of new features
such as Focus Preset, Zoom Track, AUX1 and AUX2 switches
for quick access to user-assignable functions, and precise
user-settable zoom and focus curves.
Canon’s lenses for High Definition-Electronic Cinematography,
or HD-EC, will be another centerpiece at NAB 2003. Both
the HJ21x7.5B KLL-SC and HJ11x4.7B
KLL-SC lenses utilize Canon’s Power Optical System,
featuring the X-Element, Hi-UD (High Index, Ultra Low Dispersion)
glass and Flourite, which contribute to the lens’
outstanding overall optical performance. With a rotation
angle of 270 (degrees symbol), Canon HD-EC 2002 zoom lenses
provide industry-leading precision. True film-style feel
and operation comes courtesy of zoom, focus and iris indications
engraved with large luminous scales, while gear rings are
compatible with studio focus rigs, manual fluid zoom drives
and motorized control systems used for film lenses. The
zooms will be joined by Canon’s HD-EC primes, the
FJ5, FJ9, FJ14, FJ24 and FJ35. Debuting at NAB will be the NU-700N, a turnkey Network
Controllable Pan/Tilt/Zoom (P/T/Z) system. Ideal for everything
from traffic management to high end security, weather observation
and remote city views, the NU-700N combines Canon 3CCD camera
electronics with a Canon 20x lens under a weatherproof housing.
Fully controllable via either a web browser with Canon’s
camera server software, or a remote control panel, the NU-700N
provides a conveniently complete network controllable P/T/Z
system, for a wide range of applications from broadcast
to pro video.
Also for pro video shooters at NAB 2003 will be Canon’s
economical, high-specification IFpro Series. The IFpro standard
series includes the YJ19x9B KRS, YJ19x9B IRS, and
YH19x6.7 KRS and YH19x6.7 IRS lenses for 2/3” and
½” CCD cameras, offering Canon-only optical
quality, 30% faster zoom and the exclusive “Shuttle
Shot.” In addition, the YJ12x6.5B KRSA, YJ12x6.5B
IRSA, YH12x4.8 KRSA and YH12x4.8 IRSA will be on hand.
Canobeam, Canon’s unique Free Space Optics (FSO)
video or data transmission system will round out the Canon
booth at NAB 2003. Using unique Canon compression technology,
Canobeam DT-50/HD transmits HDTV picture quality with virtually
no loss. Canobeam DT-50/SDI allows full bandwidth wireless
transmission of a wide variety of digital video signals.
No FCC allocation is ever required for Canobeam, which can
complete a wireless link at distances as far as 2km.
“In 2003, Canon continues to lead from a standpoint
of technology, vision and a thorough understanding of customers’
needs,” says Gordon Tubbs, Assistant Director, Canon
Broadcast and Communications Division. “From the creation
of products with world-class optics, to providing award-winning
sales support, Canon is at the forefront of broadcast production.”
