CANON ENHANCES REMOTE CONTROL LENS SERIES WITH NEW HDTV/SDTV
ADDITIONS, YH16x7 KTS-AF AUTO FOCUS LENS
LAS
VEGAS (NAB2004, Booth # SU9649), April 12, 2004 —
Whether shooting at major network studios, sports arenas,
or other diverse locations such as corporate conference
rooms and university lecture halls, camera operators are
often faced with the challenge of capturing the highest
quality image even if equipment is situated in the hardest
to reach locations. As a solution to this need, Canon has
taken its highest levels of HDTV and SDTV optical excellence
and combined them with new and innovative remote control
capabilities.
The Canon Remote Control Lens Series, which now includes
three HD lenses and three SD lenses, provides the finest
imagery for broadcasting, teleconference, distance learning
and other remote control applications. In addition, Canon
introduces another "first" with the YH16x7 KTS-AF
lens, which is the first auto focus lens for the remote
control market.
"An increasingly wide range of users require HDTV
and SDTV-quality lenses for remote control applications,
and our line meets that demand," said Gordon Tubbs,
assistant director, broadcast and communications division
at Canon U.S.A., Inc, a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE:
CAJ). "The YH16x7 KTS-AF lens, with Canon's exclusive
Self-Contained Auto Focus System, is unique to the industry."
The new HD lineup in Canon's Remote Control Lens Series
is recommended for HD applications, but can also future-proof
current SD users for when they upgrade their systems. The
new Canon
HJ21x7.8B ITS, HJ17x7.7B ITS lens, and wide angle HJ11x4.7B
ITS lens offer precision remote control capabilities for
scenarios where HD quality are needed. Each lens is based
optically on the Canon HD ENG/EFP lenses of the same specifications,
with the advanced capabilities of the HDxs system and the
Power Optical System with the "X-Element".
Canon's new SD broadcast quality line of remote control
lenses includes the J22ex7.6B ITS lens, J17ex7.7B ITS lens,
and wide angle J11ex4.5B ITS lens. They also benefit from
Canon's exclusive Power Optical System design, featuring
the "X-Element", for higher specifications in
a more compact package.
All six lenses provide quiet, fast servo control of zoom,
focus and iris. Each one also comes with a manually controlled
2X extender, and can be paired with an optional motorized
version.
With the YH16x7 KTS-AF, Canon introduces the first auto
focus lens for the remote control market. Using Canon's
"Self Contained Auto Focus System", it can automatically
focus on its subject by analyzing the camera's video signal.
Compatible with any 1/2" camera, the pro video grade
YH16x7 KTS-AF lens utilizes Canon's original "auto
focus algorithm", for use in teleconference, distance
learning and other remote control applications. Other useful
features of the lens include:
Follow focus function — although the lens focuses
automatically, users can choose which object is focused
on by changing the position of the focus;
Auto-adjustment of back focus — by simply pressing
the switch on the front of the lens drive unit, users can
adjust the position of the back focus automatically and
with high accuracy; and
High speed focus, low noise — focusing can be accomplished
in as little as 1.5 seconds, and acoustic noise from the
lens motors is decreased.
"Remote control situations today frequently call for
HDTV and SDTV quality, as well as the efficiency of auto-focus,"
added Gordon Tubbs. "With these additions to our Remote
Control Lens Series, there are no limits to the imagery
that remote operators can capture."
