ATLANTIC VIDEO AT THE MANHATTAN
CENTER BREAKS NEW GROUND
IN HD PRODUCTION WITH CANON HD LENSES
Canon DIGI SUPER XJ25x6.8 and HJ16x8 HD Lenses Bring Advanced
Optics to
Manhattan’s First Commercial HD Studio Facility
LAKE SUCCESS, NEW YORK – September 8, 2003: HD series
production takes a significant step forward with Canon HDxs
performance at Atlantic Video’s New York facility
at the Manhattan Center, the first commercial HD studio
facility in Manhattan, which is equipped exclusively with
HD lenses from Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon
Inc. (NYSE: CAJ). To ensure the facility’s status
as a world leader in HD, MCPAV specified Canon’s advanced
optics, durability and superior support with four each of
the DIGI SUPER XJ25x6.8B IE-D and HJ16x8B IRSD lenses.
“We’re going for pristine picture quality,
and with Canon lenses there’s no question about producing
that,” says Todd Mason, President of Atlantic Video.
“Another priority is constant reliability. In all
the years Atlantic Video has worked with Canon lenses, we’ve
had zero problems.”
The result of a comprehensive upgrade to studios at the
Manhattan Center, MCPAV is a highly flexible HD and SD-capable
facility for ESPN and other series production clients. With
Canon’s DIGI SUPER 25XS, Atlantic Video is outfitting
with a studio lens that utilizes Canon's HDxs system to
achieve the high optical performance of HDTV, increase the
zoom ratio to 25x, and improve the wide angle to 6.8mm while
still maintaining the size equivalent to that of current
SDTV lenses. The new generation digital servo system has
allowed the introduction of many new functions such as constant
angle of view while focusing (CAFS) and the selection of
different servo characteristics by memory.
The Canon HJ16x8 IRSD is designed with Canon’s unique
HDxs, which enables the very highest specifications in a
small-sized, lightweight configuration. Ideal for electronic
newsgathering, sports, entertainment and documentaries,
the HJ16x8 brings excellent optical quality and creative
options to both HDTV and SDTV cameras. Creative options
and control are also increased with Canon’s Digital
Drive system of useful digital controls, including Speed
Preset, Shuttle Shot, Framing Preset and Zoom Mode Select.
All lenses will be affixed to Ikegami cameras.
For Atlantic Video, Canon’s legendary support is
one more reason why they’re looking forward to a successful
launch of their groundbreaking, full service production
facility. “Even though we haven’t had to test
Canon’s service level, they are very attentive to
us as a customer,” Mason says. “Canon is among
the most professional vendors we work with.”
