CANON'S LOWER
COST OPTICAL WIRELESS SYSTEM
ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ: Canon introduces the latest addition
to its Canobeam line of optical wireless products, the
Canobeam Model DT-30. Like its full-featured companion
product, the Canobeam Model DT-50, the transceiver will
operate in the infrared spectrum.
The DT-30 is a lower cost transceiver for applications
with shorter link distances (up to 500 m), where there
is less need for auto-tracking. The DT-30 supports data
rates of 10 to 156 Mbps. In comparison, the auto-tracking
feature of the Model DT-50 allows for links of up to 2
kilometers at speeds of up to 622 Mbps.
"Connecting the 'last mile' of optical networks
is the top priority of today's telecom market," says
John Markowitz, Canon Account Executive for Canobeam.
"While fixed wireless solutions were previously limited
to the RF spectrum, today the unlicensed optical bands
are also an option for broadband access. Now the customer
can choose the appropriate transceiver for their budget
and their application, such as ILECs and CLECs looking
to bridge the last mile, or by enterprise customers connecting
campus LANs."
