PC
NP Copiers
Canon has issued a product advisory for a specific group
of PC and NP copiers manufactured between 1987 and 1998,
which require an inspection to address a potentially faulty
internal connection. The models affected include the PC6,
PC6RE, PC65, PC7, PC7RE, PC8, PC11, PC11RE, PC12, NP1010,
NP1020 and C-100. On September 18, 2006, Canon, in cooperation
with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, announced
a voluntary recall for repair of such models.
A faulty connection involving the power cord for the fixing
unit heater may have occurred in some of these copiers at
the time of manufacture or during servicing. A limited number
of these units may present a risk of smoke emission or fire.
Due to this risk, please contact Canon immediately for a
free repair.
Since the initial introduction of these products in 1987,
approximately 800,000 units have been shipped, and we have
had six reported incidents involving the NP1020. It is estimated
that less than 70,000 units of these models are still in
use.
This product advisory does not affect our imageRUNNER,
Color imageRUNNER, Color Laser Copier, imageCLASS, imagePROGRAF
and other PC and NP models.
To the customers using the products in question, we extend
our sincerest apologies for any inconveniences resulting
from this issue. To ensure that all Canon customers can
continue using Canon products with confidence, we will make
every effort to achieve the highest levels of quality possible
and request your continued support.
If you own one of these products, please contact Canon
at 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666) for information on how
to arrange your free repair.
