Canon U.S.A., Inc. participates as one of seven manufacturers in the financial and regulatory subgroups to provide industry input and direction, and will review results for the further development of its product design and electronics end of life programs.
The National Electronics Product Stewardship Initiative (NEPSI) was created by the US EPA in 2001 to bring private, government and non-profit stakeholders together to develop solutions for the issue of end of life electronic product management.
The NEPSI Group's main goal is to develop a balanced system that includes:
• a viable model financing mechanism for the management of end of life electronics
• maximum collection, reuse, and recycling of used electronics
• consideration of appropriate incentives to design products that facilitate source reduction, reuse and recycling; reduce toxicity, and increase recycled content.
