(NYSE: CAJ), today announced the availability of the new CLC 3900, a 39 page-per-minute* color production system for the entry-level production marketplace. With a base unit suggested retail price of $54,990, the CLC 3900 strengthens the Company's presence in the color laser copier/printer market, where it has held the top market share position for the past 15 years**.

The CLC 3900 is being introduced at the Seybold Conference and Exposition in San Francisco this week, where it has received a "Hot Pick" selection by the editors of Seybold Publications. Seybold "Hot Picks" spotlight innovative products and technologies being shown at the event that embody the best in Web, print and cross-media publishing. Products receiving the recognition are easily identified with a prominent Hot Picks logo on the Seybold event floor.

Using four drum technology and Canon's exclusive Finer Brighter (FB) toner, the CLC 3900 has a print resolution equivalent of up to 800 x 400 dots-per-inch (dpi) and maximum recommended monthly volume of 150,000 letter-size impressions. The device is targeted to the production, print-for-pay, corporate and graphics central reprographics departments, and service bureaus.

To meet the high-end document finishing needs of customers, the CLC 3900 offers booklet making and trimming of paper sizes up to 12" x 18". Scan Once Print Many (SOPM) technology, stackless duplexing, and paper handling capacity of up to 5,350 letter-size sheets from a total of four sources ensure continuous operation in demanding production environments. CLC 3900 customers may choose one of two standard available paper decks, including a 4,000 sheet letter-size deck or 2,000 sheet oversize, up to 12" x 18" deck***. With flexible support for up to 140 lb. index stock through the stack bypass, the CLC 3900 also offers several finishing options, such as the Nagel Finisher, 20-bin Stapler Sorter, or High-Capacity Stacker. Depending on configuration, CLC 3900 finishing options can be used for producing crisp, vivid Canon color within booklets, manuals, brochures and other bound documents.

The optional Canon ColorPASS-Z4500 Color Server provides network print capability for the CLC 3900. Equipped with an Intel Pentium III 1.0 GHz processor, a 60 GB hard drive, and 256 MB of SDRAM memory, the ColorPASS-Z4500 is designed for true production environments, focusing not only on performance but also on color workflow - offering many document editing, job management, and finishing options necessary in CLC 3900 installations. Industry leading EFI Fiery technologies such as Command Workstation, ColorWise 2, member printing and PowerForm are standard. DocBuilder Pro software is optional. The ColorPASS-Z4500 has a suggested retail price of $36,500.

Other color server options for the Canon CLC 3900 include T/R Systems" MicroPress X Series models, which have the capability to transform mid-range print devices into high-end solutions that complete jobs at speeds typically associated with offset presses. By combining make-ready, production and clustering services into a single server solution, the MicroPress manages all aspects of Print on Demand workflows, providing maximum throughput, advanced job management, and sophisticated color management and document finishing. Depending on configuration, combined output from up to five Canon CLC 3900 color engines is possible with T/R Systems' MicroPress X Series.

The CLC 3900 main unit, and supporting ColorPASS-Z4500, T/R Systems' MicroPress X Series color servers, and other accessories for the device will be available in the fourth quarter of 2002 through authorized Canon U.S.A. dealers and Canon Business Solutions locations.
