BOSTON, April 17, 2007 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leading provider of digital imaging solutions, today unveiled the next generation of its award-winning DR scanner line with the introduction of the Canon DR-2050SP. The new DR-2050SP provides users with an array of document imaging tools to optimize data capture, document management and archival workflows, as well as acts as a versatile presentation tool for the boardroom or classroom with its Scan-to-Projector function.
When connected directly to a projector via VGA cable, the new functionality of the Canon DR-2050SP allows users to project images onto a screen of hardcopy scanned documents, data from a USB memory drive or images captured from an IrDA Infrared (Standard of Infrared Transmission) including images from mobile devices such as cell phones and personal PDAs. The scanner itself is equipped with 32 MB of memory to scan and store up to 40 pages (images) for projection. A remote control provides easy operation such as start scanning, forward, reverse, image rotate and zoom functions for scanned images.
"The DR-2050SP is truly innovative tool for the business and education environment providing both document management and presentation capabilities for schools, offices, and anyone looking to electronically present and share information on hardcopy documents," said Mark Machida, director of Image Filing Systems Division for Canon U.S.A., Inc. "We are excited to introduce such a unique and valuable tool into the market and continue the tradition of Canon's leadership in office imaging."
The sheet-fed Canon DR-2050SP incorporates the DR-2050C scanner's streamlined desktop design for the workgroup market segment. The DR-2050SP model scans letter-size documents in black-and-white or grayscale at speeds of up to 20 (simplex) pages-per-minute (ppm) and 40i (duplex) images-per-minute (ipm) and 24-bit color at up to 10 (simplex) ppm 20ii (duplex) ipm. The Canon DR-2050SP comes bundled with Adobe Acrobat 7.0 (Standard) and OmniPage SE, adding considerable value for workgroups and office scanning applications.
Along with the Scan-to-Projector capability the Canon DR-2050SP scanner inherits the Canon DR-Series Scanners' proven reliability and image quality features such as Auto Page Size Detection, Skip Blank Page, Advanced Text Enhancement.
The new DR-2050SP will be on display at Canon booth #1400 during the AIIM On Demand Conference and Expo in Boston, April 17-19, 2007. Starting at a U.S. suggested retail price of $895.00, the DR-2050SP will begin shipping in April 2007 and will be available through authorized Canon dealers select distributors and Canon resellers.
