Light makes everything work, photographically speaking, when shooting in an urban environment like New York City and pictures need people to humanize them and give context and scale to the size of the development. Let's take a walk around New York City's newest urban neighborhood, Hudson Yards and see if we can capture its unique splendor. During the class, we want to not only show off the magnificent architecture of the new buildings but personalize the surroundings by showing how people are using this new space.
With 5 tall buildings built in close proximity to each other, we'll wander the open plaza and see how the light bounces off the glass windows to create beautifully lit areas. We'll be chasing the light through the development while showing off the magnitude of the structures. We will be using our eyes to create images that fall into the categories of street photography, architectural photography, art photography, reportage, and storytelling.
This workshop was originally scheduled for April 28th, 2019 and was rescheduled due to uncooperative weather
You will learn:
The relationship between man and structures, people humanize monolithic building
The power of light and how important it is too great street photography
The importance of lens selection and point of view in photographing in an urban environment
Time and place along with context and scale to show how this development fits into New York City
The importance of patience and how waiting for the perfect person to walk in the perfect spot creates a much stronger image.
