Canon Demonstrates its Position as a Leading Healthcare Solutions Provider with Distinguished BLI PaceSetter Award

MELVILLE, N.Y., January 4, 2017 – Ringing in the New Year with continued success in healthcare solutions excellence, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is proud to announce that it is has been named a recipient of a 2017 Buyers Laboratory LLC (BLI) PaceSetter award for Healthcare in the Hospital Networks category. BLI PaceSetter awards are given once a year to recognize vendors that offer highly impressive portfolios of devices, solutions and services for healthcare providers. Made possible by the strong collaboration of document imaging technologies offered by Canon U.S.A. and several of its subsidiaries, this award further validates that Canon integrated solutions can offer valuable tools to help healthcare professionals spend less time on administrative tasks so they may remain focused on improving quality of care, meeting pressures to contain costs and their compliance efforts1.

For this first-of-its-kind study, BLI invited all leading document imaging original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to complete an extensive questionnaire detailing their healthcare-relevant offerings in eight key areas: Hardware, Software, Service and Support, Professional Services, Security, Industry Certifications, Vertical Leadership and Overall Value. OEMs that opted to participate were also asked to make key personnel available for in-depth interviews with the BLI analyst team to give a more complete picture of the vendors’ strategies for the healthcare market. After gathering all the data, BLI’s team used a proprietary rating scale to calculate point totals in the key areas studied. Since different segments of the healthcare market have different needs, BLI’s analysts created one rating rubric weighted to reflect the challenges faced by large organizations.

“Document imaging vendors can help healthcare facilities at every level face mounting pressures in many areas, including the need to move from paper records to electronic ones and trim costs wherever possible,” noted Jamie Bsales, director, Office Workflow Solutions Analysis at BLI. “While all four of this year’s winning participants scored well in both the Hospital Networks and Group Practices analyses, Canon scored particularly well in areas most important to regional medical networks.”

“Few industries are undergoing as many challenges as healthcare, which must adapt its practices to rising costs, changing regulatory requirements and other difficulties that challenge healthcare delivery organizations to remain efficient and profitable, while still providing the highest level quality of care. We are honored that Buyers Laboratory has recognized Canon’s ability to help these providers address these challenges,” said Toyotsugu Kuwamura, executive vice president and general manager, Business Imaging Solutions Group, Canon U.S.A., Inc.

Devices, Software and Services that contributed to this award include:

Adoption of electronic health records systems (EHRs) by healthcare organizations has been one of the industry’s most transformative changes. Canon continues to support the goals of the healthcare industry by providing healthcare professionals with outstanding devices to facilitate patient workflow processes through the inclusion of paper-based clinical document information and the virtually seamless exchange of healthcare information into many Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems. Notable products within the Canon hardware portfolio that helped achieve this BLI Pacesetter award include various imageRUNNER ADVANCE and imageCLASS printers and MFPs, imageFORMULA scanners and imagePRESS color production digital presses, Océ VarioPrint 6000+ and varioPRINT 135 Series monochrome digital production presses.

Software Solutions
Despite the rate of high EHR adoption, many organizations still rely on paper records, including paper charts, physician notes, physician orders and registrations. Canon is committed to developing software solutions and establishing relationships with other leading healthcare solutions vendors to provide integration for unstructured documents into EHRs. In addition, Canon has developed the uniFLOW platform to provide caregivers Secure Print capabilities, restricted device functionality and smooth integration to the PRISMAdirect order and workflow management software for in-plant print centers, which can help reduce total printing costs and provide security features. Canon also scored highly in the software category thanks to solutions offered by Canon Solutions America, a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon U.S.A. These solutions included OpenText™ RightFax and Direct Messaging partner solution, a computer-based fax solution that provides enterprise-grade faxing capabilities across an entire organization and enables the efficient exchange of information to parties outside of the hospital.

BLI applauded Canon for its wide array of services targeted at the healthcare industry, including Digital Conversion Services for Healthcare offered by Canon Information and Imaging Solutions (CIIS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., Inc., aimed at transforming existing patient records into digital records to help improve efficiency, access to medical files and facilitate key aspects of compliance1 efforts relative to managing patient records. BLI also recognized Canon for its enterprise managed services, as well as its Healthcare Advisory Team offered by Canon Solutions America, a dedicated group of advisors focused on advancing enterprise print and scan platforms throughout the healthcare industry and providing research and best practices related to print, document management technology and workflow optimization.

In addition, BLI acknowledged Canon’s position as a leading solution provider to a broad range of medical professionals leveraging its imaging technology expertise to offer a host of solutions beyond document imaging and managed services. Among these solutions are radiology and ophthalmology equipment, network video surveillance solutions to help monitor hospital premises and LCOS projection systems suitable for university/teaching hospitals.
