We were privileged to capture images of dawn patrol as a select group of balloon pilots took to the air in the dark pre-dawn hours to mass ascensions of over 550 hot air balloons. Mix those exciting morning adventures with the evening photo opportunities of these festive balloons as they tethered for the crowds illuminating their colorful envelopes at twilight for all to enjoy. We were then treated to magnificent pyrotechnic displays to end the long days.
My favorite goal was to maneuver my balloon to the north or west to try and accomplish a "splash and dash" in the Rio Grande River. The first morning I launched and did in fact find my way across the river. The winds down at the surface provided me the ability to steer the balloon and reach the gently flowing waters. For a few minutes, I was able to place my balloon basket on the water surface and flow along with the current of the Rio Grande!
