In making this image, I was photographing the beautiful sky behind the abandoned house when I realized that the northern tip of the Milky Way was in the upper corner of the composition. My eyes traced the Milky Way over my right shoulder all the way back to the southern sky, 180 degrees behind me.

I took a few moments to level my tripod, rather than just the camera so I could attempt to capture the panoramic view from North to South.

The panorama required 9 vertical frames to be stitched together from my Canon EOS 5DS R with the EF 14mm 2.8 L lens over the fallow farm field in eastern Washington state. This combination of lens and body gave me the widest view possible with the largest file possible.

The panorama was stitched using Adobe® Photoshop® CC software to complete my vision.

Photography Tip:

Be sure to look in all directions when you have a very strong image in front of you, before you leave the location, in order to see what else you might be able to compose.
