ZR30MC

Support miniDV Camcorders

Features

Everything is going digital, and with good reason. Digital Video offers superior quality over the best analog consumer camcorders, by 20% at least, and free from annoying color noise. The ZR30MC's images reach up to 500 lines of horizontal resolution, revealing stunning detail and clarity. The digital revolution is taking place, and Canon's Know-How is leading the way.
DV Format Technology and Advantages
Digital Video is better than the older ways of recording video.
To understand just how far things have advanced, DV camcorders today commonly offer quality and features that equal and sometimes surpass the best professional TV production equipment of 15 years ago!
DV looks and sounds better, and is easier to use than analog formats today. images are better
sound is better
connection to your computer is faster and easier
tape is smaller and better quality.
cameras are smaller, lighter and quieter
While batteries are getting better, the technology is improving too, so they do all this using less battery power than ever before!

Copying your tapes is better when you ‘go digital.' Because it's digital, there is no loss of quality on your copies, generation after generation.

Also because its digital, you can view and edit your images on your home computer- in most cases without extra, fancy equipment. You can email them to friends and family too.

Digital Video is creating a whole new world of freedom and fun. Almost everybody can be a moviemaker nowadays. There is more that you can do with it at home or work, and the quality is better than ever! IEEE 1394 DV Terminal
The ZR30MC makes computer transfer easy because it's equipped with a DV IN/OUT terminal that conforms to IEEE 1394 (FireWire™)*. It takes just a single digital cable to copy your video and sound in pure digital form to another Canon DV camcorder or connect to a DV ready computer for editing and emailing pictures or video clips. And your still images can also be recorded to a floppy disk with the optional FR-100 Floppy Disk Recorder, which easily transfers them to any PC. Then you can print out your images on a Canon color printer, post them to a web site, or e-mail them.

*FireWire™ is a registered trademark of Apple Computer Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries.
A football cutting through the chilly autumn air. A plane shooting overhead. A runner crossing the finish line. These are images you don't want to record in a shaky, jagged manner. And you don't always have a tripod handy. That's why the ZR30MC has a high-quality image stabilization system that corrects camera shake instantly. Even on long telephoto shots there's no shake, no wobble, and no need for a tripod. When you show your video, let them think you're a pro.

Sometimes the greatest discoveries in life are waiting to be found; all you need is a little help. Well, the ZR30MC gives you a lot of help. Its 10x Optical Zoom Lens can reveal detail on distant, faint objects, and in addition, the 200x Digital Zoom Lens makes those objects appear like they're sitting right in front of you. The scope from wide panorama to super telephoto will leave you breathless, and full of ideas and options.
No larger than postage stamps, MultiMediaCards and SD Memory Cards offer you a whole new way to capture, store, and transfer still images. Just slip a card into your camera's MC slot, and fire away.

The ZR30MC expands video possibilities by using a MultiMediaCard or a SD (Secure Digital) Memory Card in addition to a Mini DV cassette. These ultra-small and ultra-light media record, store and manage still images, as well as allow easy transfer of still images to a PC**. Copy still images from a videocassette to a memory card, and vice versa. Produce effects not possible with just a cassette using one of the three types of Card Mix Effects.

Choose one of the sample images provided on the supplied MultiMediaCard such as a picture frame or crashing waves and combine it with the live camcorder images.

*An 8MB MultiMediaCard is supplied with the camcorders.
**With a commercially available PC card adapter or reader.
In addition to the SP and LP mode, the ZR30MC's Extended Recording Function lets you choose from two more recording modes: ESP giving two times the standard recording time; and ELP, giving three times the standard recording time*. In ELP mode, record for up to 4 hours on an 80 minute cassette tape.

*When recording in ESP or ELP recording mode, image quality will not be as high as SP or LP mode.
Compose sensational shots from any angle or play back newly-shot footage on the ZR30MC's swiveling color LCD view screen/viewfinder. The screen even lets you set up a shot in front of the camera for those masterful self-portraits. When bright shooting conditions make the eyecup viewfinder the preferred way to shoot, the LCD screen tucks away neatly against the side of the camera.
Why carry two cameras when you only need one? The ZR30MC can be switched from a movie camera to a still camera with just a click of a button. And both modes are digital, of course, which makes your movies or photos those of the highest quality. Just another example of how Canon Know-How saves you space, time, and money.
Normal Movie Mode
Okay future filmmaker, show us what you're worth. With ZR30MC, you may not make the equivalent of the latest box-office smash the first time you pick up the camera, but you may feel like you can do it. Fluid, smooth, controlled motion... the ability to edit your video, to add effects... and to make a picture that is crisp, vivid, and top-quality.
Progressive Photo Mode
Take and save sharp and clear stills with your ZR30MC. Moving and still images come out sharp and clear, without blurring. You usually see a disappointing image when you take a 'freeze frame' out of a moving image from video. Not so with the ZR30MC's Progressive Photo function. It records crystal clear images of even moving subjects. The camera uses its iris like a still camera's mechanical shutter to record two fields of image data simultaneously every 1/30th of a second, resulting in full-frame images virtually free of time-lag blur.
Because all the ZR camcorders function as digital still cameras; they 're like two cameras in one. Just press the photo button and store the image. How many? More than 700 stunning still pictures on an 80 minute videocassette! Or, combine video and still pictures together with audio. With the ZR30 MC you can capture approximately 60 fine resolution still pictures onto an 8MB MultiMediaCard.
Don't fumble - don't worry, just set it to Auto. When you're in a hurry to catch something unexpected and special, the ZR30MC is by your side. You'll get great results in most places. Shoot into the shadows, or into the bright light, mixed light, indoors or out; fast-moving images or stills.
If you have the time and the inclination, select the program that matches your scene and the camcorder adjusts internal controls for perfect video every time. Choose from Easy Recording, Auto, Sports, Portrait, Spotlight, Sand & Snow and Low Light.
As you learn more about your ZR30MC, it gives you room to grow. If you choose, you can set your own focus, shutter speed and white balance. You can even control how dark or light it sets the auto exposure level by using the AE Shift.
Edit in the camcorder with the ZR Series digital effects. You can use the various faders to smoothly start or end scenes with a fade to or from black, choose between horizontal and vertical wipes, and more!
Digital Effects
Your personal touch will show when you give variety to your images during recording by adding Art, Black and White, Sepia and Mosaic.
Digital Faders
Fades to and from black add more poise and finesse to your video. The ZR30MC allows you to choose from several different types of fades: Fade Trigger, Vertical Wipe, Horizontal Wipe, and Mosaic.
Your choice of 16 bit better-than-CD quality sound or 12 bit four channel sound. Either way, a built-in stereo microphone and speaker make for hassle-free recording and playback. Of course, you can always connect an optional external microphone to the microphone terminal, or record ('dub') extra sound at a later date, if you choose.
Want to star in a movie with your favorite celebrity? All the ZR's can insert new scenes of video from your VCR or other camcorder onto a tape. You can also add stereo sound from your home theater receiver or through the internal or optional external microphone.
They're filled with memories. Transfer an analog video signal from your VCR, TV, or camcorder into the ZR30MC and record it onto DV tapes or move it to your computer for ‘touch-ups" or editing. You'll feel great afterwards, because you're preserving those precious originals for future generations.
