The ME200S-SH Multi-Purpose Camera is equipped with the advanced 16:9 Super 35mm Canon CMOS Image Sensor, the same sensor used in our Cinema EOS cameras.

The large 8.29 megapixel sensor is sensitive in low light, helping to minimize noise, capturing independent Red, Green, and Blue channels for Full HD 1920x1080 video. This large sensor format allows for depth of field control and has dynamic range characteristics reminiscent of film, for truly arresting images.

35mm Full Frame CMOS Image Sensor Approximately 8.29 Megapixels

The ME200S-SH camera's Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology helps provide smooth and consistent autofocus, so that focus transitions are natural looking and subjects can remain focused even as they move- particularly helpful in remote or gimbal shooting situations.

Even in unpredictable shooting conditions, the camera can maintain focus within the center portion of the frame, and is compatible with select Canon EF autofocus lenses.

The camera's Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology features a Super 35mm CMOS sensor that consists of an array of pixels that each feature two separate photodiodes. By continuously comparing their outputs during AF mode, phase-difference autofocus helps ensure non-blurred images and smooth focus transitions even when the talent and/or camera are moving. This feature places a high priority on maintaining sharp focus while, providing a natural, smooth autofocus movement.

Continuous AutoFocus tracks movements of the subject and keeps the subject in focus supported.

The ME200S-SH Multi-Purpose Camera allows users to capture subjects even under some of the most challenging low light conditions, helping to deliver an optimum balance between image quality and sensitivity, making it ideal for a wide range of night time and low light applications.

The combined performance of the camera's Canon Super 35mm CMOS sensor and DIGIC DV 4 Image Processor achieve a very high signal-to-noise ratio that enables recordings with great detail and dynamic range even in minimal light. This advanced performance yields a maximum ISO speed of 204,000 and a wide dynamic range with up to 12 stops.

The high-dynamic-range shooting ability of the ME200S-SH camera helps diminish the loss of dark detail at a low luminous intensity, which tends to arise when shooting under low luminous intensity conditions, and overexposure of the high-brightness areas. The camera's wide dynamic range of 600% helps to suppress brightness while maintaining seamless gradations

Loss of dark detail at low luminous intensity is decreased.

In addition, Canon Log Gamma helps to preserve shadow and highlight detail, for maximum editing and grading in post-production. Contrast and sharpness are subdued with characteristics similar to negative film. Canon Log Gamma emphasizes rich gradients from mid-range to highlights and realizes 12-stops of Dynamic Range (DR). At ISO 850 and above, Canon Log Gamma enables 5.3 stops of latitude above optimal exposure (and 6.7 stops below), broadening the available dynamic range in color grading.

Canon Log ensures tonal reproduction for both highlight and lowlight regions during post production.

The ME200S-SH camera features industry standard connection terminals allowing the camera to be used in a wide range of applications from recorded content to live broadcast. By employing 3G/HD-SDI and HDMI output terminals, Canon's ME200S-SH camera can output audio/video to peripheral equipment including external recorders and monitors.

The camera is also equipped with Genlock input for camera switching in a multi-camera, live broadcast environment, and a 3.5mm stereo mini-jack that allows the camera to connect with an external microphone. Power can be provided through standard 12 volt, 4-pin XLR, as well as 2-pin connector for use in more permanent installations.

The optional Canon RC-V100 Multi-Function Remote controller can be used to remotely control camera operation using the supplied 2.5mm stereo mini-jack or 8-pin jack for RS-422. Image quality and other settings can be adjusted when shooting from a crane, jib arm, or mounted remotely in some other inaccessible location.

Canon Multi-Purpose Camera ME200S-SH

The ME200S-SH Multi-Purpose Camera features the same Super 35mm CMOS sensor and Dual Pixel CMOS AF (Auto-Focus) technology used in our Cinema EOS cameras.

Canon ME200S-SH Product Overview

Brent discusses the main camera features as well as the plethora of applications and scenarios that this camera can be used for.

This is to make Misc appear on the page when needed.

March 2017 Firmware Update

This update will provide additional functionality to the ME20F-SH Multi-Purpose camera. First, is the addition of three kinds of camera modes in addition to Auto/Manual. Designed to offer flexibility and options for semi-automatic operation, the three new modes are TV, AV, and AGC:

  • TV: Shutter Speed is selectable. Iris and Gain are auto. ND is selectable Auto or Manual.
  • Av: Iris is selectable. Sutter Speed and Gain are auto. ND is selectable Auto or Manual.
  • AGC: Shutter Speed and Iris are selectable. Gain is auto. ND is selectable Auto or Manual.

The following EF lenses are now verified to work with the camera system (Peripheral Illumination Correction is also supported):

This update will also add menu settings that offer Fine-Tuning adjustments when used in a chroma-key situation. Four kinds of parameters, Hue (Blue or Green), Chroma, Area and Y Level, have been added to the Custom Picture menu in order to extract the keyed object and synthesize the background for certain systems that use an “easy chroma-key system”. This refers to a chroma-key kit where blue or green light is added to a particular gray matte background.

Also, three new modes of white balance are being added for both cameras in addition to AWB (auto white balance). When the camera mode is set to Auto, it will now be possible to choose from the following four choices of white balance:

  • AWB
  • White Balance Set (WB-A/WB-B)
  • White Balance Preset (Daylight/Tungsten)
  • Color Temperature (2000K〜15000K by 100K)

The ME200S-SH Multi-Purpose camera does not include a viewfinder or LCD display, and instead require an external monitoring solution. So, in order to add additional compatibility for monitoring when the camera is set to 25.00P, 25PsF is being added as an output format. Prior to this update, only 50i could be selected on output when the recording frame rate was set to 25.00P. This signal was not compatible for viewing camera output with some monitors. Therefore, with this update, 25.00PsF can be selected as an output frame rate in the “Other Function” menu options, which can then be selected as a Mon. Out option. These are the same specs for monitoring as found in the EOS C300 Mark II.

Additionally, to further enhance monitoring options, support for “59.94P/59.94i” and “50.00P/50.00i” settings is being updated. When the cameras’ set frame rate is 59.94P or 50.00P, “59.94P (50.00P)” and “59.94i (50.00i)” are available under the 3G/HD-SDI 1/MONITOR terminal setting in accordance with which frame rate was selected. So, if you select 50.00P, 50.00(i) will be available (along with 25.00PsF), or if you select 59.94P, 59.94(i) will be a monitoring option. These changes should add a great deal of flexibility when choosing a monitor.

Note, however, that the cameras’ set frame rate is output from the 3G/HD-SDI 2 terminal at all times, and will not be affected by these additional monitoring options.
