ME20F-SH

Multi-Purpose Cameras

Providing access to all important user functions.

Features

The ME20F-SH Multi-Purpose Camera features a newly developed Canon full frame 35mm CMOS sensor with an equivalent sensitivity in excess of 4,000,000 ISO. Able to capture full color 1080p video up to 60fps, the ME20F-SH camera can be ideal for use in extreme low light environments.

This innovative 35mm full frame CMOS sensor has photosites measuring 19 micrometers square. The large photosites allow for exceptional low light performance, with a minimum subject illumination of 0.0005 or below (at maximum 75 dB gain).

Canon's DIGIC DV 4 image processor supports a dynamic range of 12 stops along with Wide DR and Canon Log gamma profiles, helping to minimize the loss of shadow detail, and overexposure of the high-brightness areas.

The camera allows users to capture subjects even under some of the most challenging low light conditions, making the ME20F-SH camera ideal for a wide range of nighttime and low light applications.

The ME20F-SH camera features a rugged, versatile box style design that allows the camera to be easily configured for a variety of professional applications. The camera design allows it to be combined with a wide range of accessories making it suitable for use in television, nature and wildlife, documentary production, security and law enforcement.

Depending on the end user's needs, the ME20F-SH Multi-Purpose Camera can produce video in full HD imaging at a full frame rate of up to 60 fps, with selectable frame rates of 59.94P / 59.94i / 50.00P / 50.00i / 29.97P / 25.00P / 23.98P.

The ME20F-SH camera features industry standard connection terminals allowing the camera to be used in a wide range of applications from recorded content to live broadcast. By employing 3G/HD-SDI and HDMI output terminals, Canon's ME20F-SH can output audio/video to peripheral equipment including external recorders and monitors.

The camera is also equipped with Genlock input for camera switching in a multi-camera, live broadcast environment.

The Canon RC-V100 Remote Controller can be used to remotely control camera operation via either the supplied 2.5mm mini-jack or 8-pin jack for RS-422.

A 3.5mm stereo mini-jack allows the camera to connect with an external microphone.

Power can be provided through standard 12 volt, 4-pin XLR, as well as 2-pin connector for use in more permanent installations.

The ME20F-SH Multi-Purpose Camera is compatible with Canon's line of EF mount lenses. The camera comes equipped with a Canon locking EF mount, allowing the lens to be attached or removed without the need to rotate the lens barrel. This facilitates changing lenses in applications where multiple accessories are attached to the lens.

The front of the camera features a 12-pin lens terminal enabling power connectivity with EF mount CINE-SERVO lenses or 2/3" broadcast lenses with a third party adapter. Support for lens communication will be added in a future firmware update.
Infrared Shooting
The ME20F-SH features an IR cut filter that can be removed for infrared shooting. During typical daylight shooting conditions, the IR cut filter is used to block unwanted IR light to help ensure color fidelity and reproduction. In extreme low light conditions, removing the cameras IR filter allows IR light to reach the camera's sensor, enhancing the camera's ability to identify objects within the scene. Uniquely, the IR functionality of the camera allows for color reproduction, increasing the ability to recognize and differentiate objects.

The removable IR cut filter is incorporated with the ND filter stack, allowing the IR cut filter to be activated in the same way as the camera's ND filters.

Built-In Density ND Filter
The ME20F-SH is also supplied with two built in neutral density filters, a 3-stop (ND1/8) and a 6-stop (ND1/64), allowing the operator more control over the amount of light hitting CMOS sensor.

Digital Teleconverter
The camera's built in 2x and 4x digital teleconverter will digitally double or quadruple the working distance of the equipped lens, providing extra reach when required and helps minimize the need to switch lenses- which could save time and adds versatility to help users capture essential content.

One-Shot AF
One-Shot AF assists in focusing adjustment with a dedicated button. Focus status can be confirmed on an external monitor.

Push Auto Iris
Push Auto Iris automatically adjusts the aperture of the lens to quickly and easily maintain proper exposure, even in situations where lighting changes frequently.

Firmware Updates

This update will provide additional functionality to the ME20F-SH Multi-Purpose camera. First, is the addition of three kinds of camera modes in addition to Auto/Manual. Designed to offer flexibility and options for semi-automatic operation, the three new modes are TV, AV, and AGC:

  • TV: Shutter Speed is selectable. Iris and Gain are auto. ND is selectable Auto or Manual.
  • Av: Iris is selectable. Sutter Speed and Gain are auto. ND is selectable Auto or Manual.
  • AGC: Shutter Speed and Iris are selectable. Gain is auto. ND is selectable Auto or Manual.

This update will also provide support for the COMPACT-SERVO 18-80mm T4.4 EF lens, with the following points now available when this lens is attached:

  • Acquirement of metadata.
  • Peripheral illumination correction is supported.
  • Aperture can be adjusted manually by using the joystick on the camera body.
  • Focus/Zoom/Iris can be operated by using RC-V100.
  • Support for One-shot AF
  • Support for Push Auto Iris
  • Start/Stop button on the lens can be worked with camera when the grip unit is attached

The following EF lenses are now verified to work with the camera system (Peripheral Illumination Correction is also supported):

This update will also add menu settings that offer Fine-Tuning adjustments when used in a chroma-key situation. Four kinds of parameters, Hue (Blue or Green), Chroma, Area and Y Level, have been added to the Custom Picture menu in order to extract the keyed object and synthesize the background for certain systems that use an “easy chroma-key system”. This refers to a chroma-key kit where blue or green light is added to a particular gray matte background.

Also, three new modes of white balance are being added for both cameras in addition to AWB (auto white balance). When the camera mode is set to Auto, it will now be possible to choose from the following four choices of white balance:

  • AWB
  • White Balance Set (WB-A/WB-B)
  • White Balance Preset (Daylight/Tungsten)
  • Color Temperature (2000K〜15000K by 100K)

The ME20F-SH Multi-Purpose camera does not include a viewfinder or LCD display, and instead require an external monitoring solution. So, in order to add additional compatibility for monitoring when the camera is set to 25.00P, 25PsF is being added as an output format. Prior to this update, only 50i could be selected on output when the recording frame rate was set to 25.00P. This signal was not compatible for viewing camera output with some monitors. Therefore, with this update, 25.00PsF can be selected as an output frame rate in the “Other Function” menu options, which can then be selected as a Mon. Out option. These are the same specs for monitoring as found in the EOS C300 Mark II.

Additionally, to further enhance monitoring options, support for “59.94P/59.94i” and “50.00P/50.00i” settings is being updated. When the cameras’ set frame rate is 59.94P or 50.00P, “59.94P (50.00P)” and “59.94i (50.00i)” are available under the 3G/HD-SDI 1/MONITOR terminal setting in accordance with which frame rate was selected. So, if you select 50.00P, 50.00(i) will be available (along with 25.00PsF), or if you select 59.94P, 59.94(i) will be a monitoring option. These changes should add a great deal of flexibility when choosing a monitor.

Menu options that will be available for the monitor terminal after firmware update.

Note, however, that the cameras’ set frame rate is output from the 3G/HD-SDI 2 terminal at all times, and will not be affected by these additional monitoring options.

3x Tele-Converter
In addition to the existing 2x and 4x Tele-Converter function, a 3x Tele-Converter function has been added.
Synchronization of On-Screen Display with REC Start/Stop
When recording to compatible external recorder, the on-screen display (OSD) will show 'rec' on the right side of the screen. The option to turn this display on and off in conjunction with the start/stop record button can now be selected.
Auto Slow Shutter Function
The user can now select Auto Slow Shutter Off/On.
Additional Lens Support
The following lenses are now supported.
ME20F-SH EF compatible with EF-S, EF Cinema, ENG Lenses
Additional Lens Functionality
The 12-pin lens terminal is now activated. The highlighted lens functions are now possible.
