1.0 Type (1”) 4K CMOS Sensor
The CR-X500 features a Canon 1.0-inch 4K CMOS image sensor capable of 4K UHD video capture at 60P, making it a versatile addition to any 4K workflow.
The CR-X500’s 1.0-inch sensor allows for larger photosites compared to smaller-sized sensors, resulting in improved images with less noise in low-light situations. The larger sensor also exhibits a shallower depth of field at large apertures, providing greater depth of field control and more creative options. The CR-X500’s Dual DIGIC DV 6 Imaging Processors further drives the high sensitivity and low noise performance of the camera.

Dual DIGIC DV 6 Image Processors
The CR-X500 PTZ camera incorporates dual Canon DIGIC DV 6 Image Processors, which are essential in providing high-quality imagery, advanced performance and convenient operability. This advanced core technology component provides the image-processing power and speed that enables features such as 4K UHD video acquisition, precise Dual Pixel CMOS AF and Advanced Zoom function.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF
Dual Pixel CMOS AF is Canon’s breakthrough AF technology that uses a CMOS sensor with a structure that combines imaging and phase-difference AF functions. The Dual Pixel CMOS AF determines the focusing position by the phase difference, which drives the focusing lens smoothly and enables quick focusing. The AF tracking capability is effective even during zooming, panning or tilting. On the other hand, with conventional contrast AF method, used by other cameras, the focusing position is determined by the contrast (difference of brightness). Therefore, the focusing lens may move slightly back and forth around the focusing position, which could cause delay when focusing.

The CR-X500 supports 4K 59.94P 4:2:2 10-bit Output for natural and realistic 4K video.
15x Zoom Range 25.5mm-382.5mm (35mm equiv.)
The CR-X500 features a 15x Optical 4K UHD Zoom lens with a 35mm equivalent range for 25.5mm – 382.5mm. This zoom range helps to capture wide angle environment shots to telephoto detail subject shots.
The lens group zoom system makes the 4K UHD lens compact and slim while providing support for the CMOS sensor.
Aspheric lens elements are utilized to achieve 4K image quality while correcting various aberrations over the entire zoom range.
The CR-X500 is equipped with a built-in ND filter mechanism that allows the user to select from three densities: 1/4, 1/16, 1/64. With the built-in ND filter, users can achieve rich video expression by controlling aperture values.
30x zoom in HD when using Advanced Zoom
Users can get up to 30x Advanced Zoom when shooting in Full HD, which utilizes the CR-X500's full 4K UHD sensor to extend the zoom range while maintaining image quality.
The lens structure of the CR-X500 enables real-time responsiveness in a three-dimensional space, allowing the optical image stabilization Canon lenses are known for.
3-axis Simultaneous PTZ Movement
The CR-X500 can smoothly Pan, Tilt and Zoom simultaneously to quickly and easily move from one shot to the next.
Wide ±170° Pan/+30 ~ -50° Tilt Coverage
The CR-X500 is equipped with a Pan & Tilt drive mechanism supporting a range of ±170° Pan, -50° ~ 30° Tilt.
Furthermore, the CR-X500 exhibits a variable Pan speed of 0.5° - 25°/second and Tilt speed of 0.3° - 20°/second.
Canon Log 3 Supported
Canon Log 3 is a gamma regarded for its latitude and flexibility with post-processing. It realizes a dynamic range (800%/13-STOP equivalent) while retaining the characteristics of the dark area and the proximity of 18% grey.
Log shooting is particularly effective for constantly shifting shooting sites such as unscripted productions and documentaries or sites with rapidly changing lighting conditions.
Shooting in log allows the CR-X500 to more easily match the color and look of other cameras, especially those also shooting in log. This helps provide a more consistent look across the entire production.
Wide DR Gamma Supported
The CR-X500 supports Wide DR Gamma for natural and realistic-looking images that faithfully represents the scene at hand. Wide DR Gamma achieves a dynamic range of 800% to produce almost seamless tone gradations, resulting in smooth detail and virtually no blown-out highlights.
Image Quality Modes
The CR-X500 is equipped with image quality modes for high-end video production. In addition, it is equipped with Canon Log 3, allowing smooth integration into a post-production workflow.
Apart from the preset image quality mode, adjusting and combining the gamma, color space and color matrix, it is possible to adjust the intended image quality and look.
Image Quality Adjustment Functions
The CR-X500 is equipped with the image quality adjustment functions already well acclaimed on professional camera models for high-end video production. This allows content creators to match the picture settings of other cameras resulting in a match of image output.
Options available include: Master Pedestal, R-Gain, B-Gain, R-Black, B-Black, Gamma, Color Matrix, Knee, Skin Detail, Sharpness, Black Gamma, and Noise Reduction.
IP55 Dust and Water Resistance
The CR-X500 is resistant to dust and water intrusion to the IP55 rating level.
Wind and Salt Resistance
The CR-X500’s paint is salt resistant to better protect against environmental wear, and pan and tilt operations are wind resistant.
The included wiper allows for the wiping of the camera lens when weather conditions call for it.
The CR-X500 has a 12G-SDI output, suitable for high image quality 4K video at a high frame rate of 59.94P.
Genlock allows sync with other systems in multi-camera environments.
An RS-422 Serial Control port is included to allow for remote camera control.
The CR-X500 supports Canon’s NU Protocol, which is a non-proprietary serial control protocol. A user or system integrator can provide their own control system or contract a third party.
An auxiliary port is available for third-party expansion like adding a washer unit.
Remote Camera Controller RC-IP100
The Remote Camera Controller RC-IP100* is equipped with a control lever, zoom lever and 7” touch panel for intuitive operation. Camera operations such as PTZ and function settings can be easily changed. Flexible camera work is possible even from a location away from the shooting site.
