The HJ24ex7.5B lens offers specifications that are a dramatic improvement over its predecessor: a focal range from 7.5mm at the wide end to 180mm at the tele end (360mm with built-in 2x extender in use), along with a 24x zoom ratio. A breakthrough lens delivering the world's widest angle and highest zoom ratio in its class*, the HJ24ex7.5B is ideally situated for many applications, including news, sports, and documentaries.

Building on the outstanding optical performance of its predecessor, the new HJ24ex7.5B lens extends optical performance still further. It delivers a wider angle and higher zoom ratio, while at the same time providing excellent aberration correction over the entire zoom range for sharper and clearer images. The combination of excellent specifications and high image quality makes possible a broad range of expression.
Compared with its predecessor, the HJ24ex7.5B lens is noticeably lighter. The center of gravity is closer to the mount, lessening strain on the hands and elbows of the camera operator. The ergonomic form factor creates a more user-friendly design that makes it easier to move the camera about. The new lens is sure to satisfy professionals with its high-level combination of excellent specifications, enhanced optical performance, and improved usability.
The HJ24ex7.5B lens incorporates a new and enhanced Drive Unit. The new high-performance encoder supports communication with compatible 2/3" HDTV cameras equipped with aberration correction functionality, without initializing the lens. Three 20-pin connectors enable high-definition lens metadata output for virtual systems even during full-servo operation. In addition, reduced power consumption and the new simplified display mode (Basic Mode) enhance operability.
Aberration Correction and Virtual Functions Enabled without Lens Initialization
To date, aberration correction functions have often been employed on 2/3" HDTV cameras for broadcast use. The new drive unit of the HJ24ex7.5B lens can output accurate lens position data from the moment the power is turned on and does not require initialization as earlier units did, which contributes to the quick start when shooting.
More Advanced Virtual Operability and More Precise Virtual Image Expression
The new drive unit uses three 20-pin connectors. It provides virtual output even with the zoom and focus servo controllers being connected, thereby enabling more advanced operation. Canon's new high-performance encoder is capable of extremely high-precision output. This simplifies calibration when composing virtual and live-action images, thus resulting in more accurate composites.
Saved Power Consumption
The HJ24ex7.5B lens can operate even longer on battery power than its predecessor. Power consumption while the zoom, focus, and iris functions are not being operated has been reduced by approximately 20%, further enhancing the mobility of the camera operator.
Simple Display Operations
Canon's unique display-based functions help a variety of operations. We have listened to our customers, and a new simplified mode (Basic Mode) makes for easier operation.
The Canon drive unit integrates a variety of operations, stored digitally, that can be manipulated using the display.
By memorizing any two focal lengths, the Canon drive unit can automatically "shuttle" between two points, moving in either direction. As an example, this function is effective for shots in which an operator wants to start from a wide angle and then zoom in rapidly on to an object.
An angle of view can be preset in either of two memories and the lens will zoom at the highest speed, or in a preset zoom speed, to the preset position with the push of a simple button. As an example, this function is effective for situations such as interview programs, where it is necessary to switch between bust shot and wide shot.
A specific zoom speed can be preset in memory making it possible to repeat the zoom speed as often as you like with the push of a simple button. Using a preset speed when zooming in and zooming out contributes to create stable images, particularly with slow zooms.
