RF800mm F5.6 L IS USM Lens
The RF800mm F5.6 L IS USM expands the EOS R System for professional and advanced photographers looking for the excellent image quality of a Canon L series super-telephoto lens. Perfect for wildlife, motorsports, and more, the lens feature two large-diameter Fluorite elements, one Super UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) and one UD-glass element, and Air Sphere Coating for outstanding correction of color fringing and superb contrast and sharpness. At an 800mm focal length this lens enables you to achieve incredibly soft backgrounds and tremendous visual impact. Optical image stabilization provides for up to 4.5 stops of shake correction, delivering consistent and sharp results, and at its minimum focus distance, you can fill the frame with a subject as small as a sparrow. It's compatible with both RF1.4x and RF2x Extenders for even more reach at focal lengths of 1120mm and 1600mm. At an impressively light 6.9 lbs., the RF800mm F5.6 L IS USM is versatile and lightweight making it easy to bring the action clear and up close.
Features
Outstanding Image Quality, 800mm Super-telephoto Fixed Focal Length Lens Expands the EOS R System
Optimized magnification optics increase the focal length while retaining the lightness and high levels of image quality achieved in the EF400mm f/2.8L IS III USM and EF600mm f/4L IS III USM lenses. A combination of two large-diameter Fluorite elements, one Super UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) and one UD-glass element provides outstanding sharpness and contrast, center to corner, even at maximum aperture. A UD lens element positioned in the rear section of the lens provides excellent correction of the increased chromatic aberration generated by the magnification optics. This results in tack-sharp images with minimal color fringing in any shooting condition.

Impressively Light at 6.9 lbs., While Retaining High Levels of Image Quality
The RF800mm F5.6 L IS USM distinguishes itself by maintaining incredibly high image quality expected from a Canon L-series lens with a supremely light weight build for its focal length. This allows for subjects and situations where telephoto power and portability are vital. Since it uses the same optical design in its front section as the EF400mm f/2.8L IS version III lens, similar superb image quality can be expected, delivering visual impact with its amazing telephoto power.

Minimum Focusing Distance of Approx. 8.53 ft. / 2.6 m.
With a minimum focusing distance of approx. 8.53 ft./2.6m, the RF800mm F5.6 L IS USM lens helps you get close to your subjects. At its closest focus distance, users can fill the frame with a subject roughly the size of a sparrow. Maximum close-up magnification is 0.34x - more than 1/3 life-size - which is outstanding for a super-tele lens of this type.

Optical Image Stabilization with up to 4.5 Stops* of Shake Correction
The RF800mm F5.6 L IS USM features an Optical Image Stabilizer system that provides up to 4.5 stops* of shake correction, delivering consistent and sharp results. Whether hand-held or mounted on a monopod (or other devices allowing mobile positioning), the lens's Image Stabilization can deliver clear image detail in low-light situations or at lower ISOs. This applies when capturing both stills and video, for stable shooting, and sharp final imagery.
Three IS Operation Modes
Three image stabilization modes provide shake-correction for outstanding results in a wide range of shooting situations. These include traditional stabilization, with the correction visible any time IS is active in the camera's viewfinder (IS Mode 1); helping to correct camera shake when intentionally panning horizontally (or vertically), providing shake-correction perpendicular to the photographer's panning movement (IS Mode 2); and stabilization that instantly goes into effect only when the shutter is released - no correction visible between shots, in the camera's viewfinder (IS Mode 3).

Super Spectra Coating (SSC) and Air Sphere Coating (ASC) Helps Minimize Ghosting and Flare
The RF800mm F5.6 L IS USM lens features Canon's Super Spectra Coating (SSC) that helps maintain overall image quality and color fidelity, as well as Air Sphere Coating (ASC), which significantly helps to reduce the occurrence of lens flare and ghosting. The RF800mm F5.6 L IS USM continues to deliver outstanding images and video, even at maximum aperture, in harsh back-lighting conditions.

Compatible with Canon RF1.4x and 2x Extenders
To help get you even closer to distant subjects, attach the compatible Extender RF1.4x or Extender RF2x to the RF800mm F5.6 L IS USM. Expand effective telephoto power to 1120mm at f/8 with the Extender RF1.4x, or to an effective 1600mm at f/11 using the Extender RF2x. The extenders allow even more telephoto reach when it’s needed yet allow the user to convert back to an f/5.6 lens for low-light situations by simply removing the extender.

Customizable Electronic Focus Ring, with Manual Focus Capability during SERVO AF
The lens's large manual focus ring is located directly on the lens barrel and allows you to select from three different manual focus speed levels, to adjust the focus ring rotation to your desired preference. The “1” position on the M.Focus Speed switch provides the fastest sensitivity (a small amount of focus ring rotation provides significant focus change in the lens); settings 2 and 3 reduce this sensitivity, allowing for finer manual focus adjustments. This can help whether you need a slow speed to switch between someone's eyes in a distant profile, or a fast speed to dial in on different birds in a large, swiftly moving flock. Additionally, depending on camera settings, manual focus is still possible while AF is engaged, letting you fine tune focus adjustments to suit your shooting preferences.

Two Focus Presets Available - Instantly Return to One or Two Memorized Focus Distances
Memorize one - or two - different focus distances, and immediately return to either one with a slight turn of the RF800mm F5.6 L IS USM lens’s playback ring, on the lens barrel. A wildlife photographer, for example, can pre-focus on two different spots where he or she expects wildlife to appear, and immediately jump to either memorized position via the playback ring. Full AF or manual focus operation remains available, as well.

9-blade Circular Aperture for Beautiful, Soft Backgrounds
Thanks to its 9-blade, circular aperture, the RF800mm F5.6 L IS USM is capable of gorgeous bokeh, achieving evocative out-of-focus areas and soft backgrounds. With rounded rendering of background blur, the 9-blade circular aperture helps create intimacy and intensity in both photos and videos for impactful results.

Durable L-series Construction with Dust- and Water-resistant Design, Fluorine Coating on Front Element for Easy Cleaning
Built to L series lens specifications, the RF800mm F5.6 L IS USM features a highly durable design for excellent performance even in inclement weather conditions. It delivers a dust- and water-resistant construction with seals around the mount, switches, rings and more. To help maintain a clean lens, even after multiple lens changes in sub-optimal conditions, the RF800mm F5.6 L IS USM has a specially designed fluorine coating on its front and rear surfaces. The coating helps to prevent water, oil, and other surface residue like fingerprints from sticking to the lens, which facilitates quick and easy wiping, without the use of solvents.

MTF Charts
A Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) chart measures a lens’ expected optical performance at the center of the picture area and measures repeatedly along the diagonal line, further and further toward the corners of the image. The higher a curve is shown on the chart, the better the lens is performing in the area the chart is measuring. As a curve moves from left to right, it displays the lens' results from center towards the corners.
