The VB-S900F has been designed to be one of the smallest fixed box cameras on the market today, with components maximized to save space yet provide high quality video at the same time. To accomplish this, smaller circuit boards are combined with meticulous layout planning. The lens has been designed with UD, aspherical elements and a high refractive index. This allows for a much more compact lens assembly as well as superb image capture capability, so the Full HD Video is clear and crisp. The VB-S900F is smaller and lighter than many other cameras of its type, increasing the options available when mounting in small spaces, even without mounting hardware if necessary.
Power over Ethernet
A key component in the compact size of the VB-S900F is the sole use of Power over Ethernet as the method of power, with a maximum usage of 4.3 watts.
Genuine Canon 96° Angle of View Lens
Canon's world-wide fame in optical technology means that this same expertise is seen in the superb F1.6 lens fitted to the VB-S900F. In addition to an expansive 96° viewing angle, the UD, aspherical elements and high refractive index mean this lens delivers excellent image quality while at the same time possessing the smallest form factor in its class, all in a compact size.
Another benefit this lens brings to the user is the mitigation of environmentally caused focus shift. Wide temperature ranges to which the camera may be exposed can result in thermal expansion of the lens barrel. This affects the lens' refractive index, causing focus shift. This problem is largely eliminated in the VB-S900F.
Class Leading Low-Light Performance
Frequently, challenging low-light situations are found in surveillance locations. The ability of a security camera to capture the highest quality video possible in such conditions is very important. The VB-S900F combines a high sensitivity sensor, bright lens, enhanced noise reduction, and video quality optimization to deliver Full HD video with low-light performance at the top of the compact HD class in Canon testing. What this means is color video from .4 lux down to .01 lux* and black/white video from .02 lux to .007 lux.** These impressive numbers translate into higher quality video from VB-S900F cameras mounted in the most demanding locations.
* Ratings based on F1.6, 1/30 second and Smart Shade Control off (.45 lux), F.1.6, ½ second and Smart Shade Control on (.01 lux).

Ease in system integration is important to ensure that users can create a network which best meets their specific requirements. The VB-S900F makes this possible with ONVIF version 2.2 protocol compatibility, including the Profile S standard which includes greater interoperability than found in previous network cameras. It is simpler to integrate the VB-S900F with other ONVIF compliant 3rd party products and it is backwards compatible with earlier versions of the ONVIF protocol.
2.1 Megapixel CMOS Sensor
The Megapixel CMOS Sensor of the VB-S900F ensures maximum image quality, a hallmark of Canon products. Its approximately 2.1 million pixels deliver incredibly sharp, high resolution video, with detail that ensures clearer, more effective video monitoring.
DIGIC DV III
The VB-S900F has at its core Canon's powerful and highly regarded DIGIC DV III Image Processor. It's known for providing superior image quality through more life-like colors, tonal accuracy and reduced noise. This comes with the additional benefit of low power consumption.
DIGIC NET II
Working in tandem with DIGIC DV III is DIGIC NET II. It is a sophisticated, efficient compression, encryption and transmission processor, which allows high quality Full HD (1920 x 1080) video at 30fps in both MJPEG and high quality, low bandwidth H.264 Codec. Users have the flexibility of multiple sizes of MJPEG streaming from which to choose and the VB-S900F will also allow 2 different sizes of H.264 which can be streamed simultaneously.
The H.264 Codec has adjustable I-frames and, by combining both high quality video and high compression rates, it gives the user the considerable benefits of low bandwidth utilization and low disk space usage with video of the quality demanded. The addition of support of the display of H.264 in the Admin Viewer now allows the viewing of this high quality, low bandwidth video directly from the camera's webpage without the need to install additional software.
The IEEE802.1x Client Authentication Support of the VB-S900F helps to enhance the security of the user's network with port based access control. It is possible for the camera to be installed in the most sensitive high security areas, as the Client Authorization Support ensures that only client authorized devices are connected to the network.
With the HTTP over SSL (HTTPS) support of the VB-S900F, both self-signed and Certificate Authority issued certificates can be recognized in order to ensure that communication between the camera and the client is secure, preserving the integrity of your data.
Auto IP Feature
The VB-S900F will assign itself a private IP address on startup. Designed for small implementations or demonstrations, this will allow for quick setup and viewing immediately on installation without the need to configure each camera's IP address individually.
On-board Video Analytics
The capability of the VB-S900F is greatly enhanced by the range of Video Analytics available to the user. They include:
- Moving Object Detection
- Removed Object Detection
- Abandoned Object Detection
- Sound Level Detection
- Camera Tampering Detection
- Passing Detection
In each of these analytics, the user can customize the behavior of the VB-S900F by precisely tuning the camera's event detection triggers. These include the detection area, sensitivity and duration. When an event occurs, advanced event notification tools can alert the selected personnel, maximizing response time. Now users will also have a Quick Setting in the Removed Object Detection analytic, which when triggered, rapidly identifies objects in the camera's field of view and places a visual 'box' around the object automatically. This can significantly reduce the time required to configure and identify the location of removed objects.
The Privacy Mask Function works by blocking pre-defined areas of the camera view. Such areas might include details such as door entries, ATM keypads, computer monitors or office or apartment windows which should not be seen or recorded in an area which nevertheless requires surveillance. Full range of camera motion is preserved while still protecting the security of targeted areas or items.
Preset Setting Tool
Another feature of the VB-S900F is the Preset Setting Tool. This allows the end-user to customize the camera by setting up to 20 presets within the frame, thus allowing critical areas to be effectively monitored.
Digital & Viewer PTZ
With the VB-S900F's ability to allow the user to digitally pan, tilt and zoom in the incoming video stream, details in the camera's field of view can be investigated without the need to physically reposition the camera.
Scheduled Custom Video Settings
For maximum user flexibility in tailoring the settings of the video capture, the VB-S900F allows for customization of the video settings when switching from day to night mode, as well as setting a daily schedule. These settings can be pre-programmed to ensure that the image quality is optimized throughout the day for ambient light conditions.
Flexibility in Video Size Choices
Flexibility is a hallmark of the VB-S900F and that extends to choices in the size of live and recorded video streams to select those best suited to their specific requirements. The user may choose between the 16:9 sizes of Full HD, and HD video sizes such as 720p as well as additional 4:3 aspect ratio video sizes.
Live images and H.264 video can be saved to memory card with the VB-S900F's built-in microSD Memory Card slot. The use of microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC cards allows the user to save events which occurred during live network outages, event triggers and scheduled times, as well as events that were manually recorded, for future review and analysis.
Additionally, system logs are created when incidents occur on the SD card for future troubleshooting. The playback of JPEG and H.264 video within the monitoring browser is also supported, eliminating the need for prior download to a PC.
Auto Smart Shade Control
The image quality of the VB-S900F is enhanced by Smart Shade Control. It brightens the underexposed areas of the image, while leaving the properly exposed areas alone. This gives the user an image which is evenly exposed. Those details which might otherwise be hidden in underexposed areas can now be easily identified, without compromising the overall image.
Auto Gain Control
The user of the VB-S900F can adjust the maximum amount of digital gain used in the Full HD image when auto exposure is selected in low-light environments. This ensures that the user retains control over the quantity of digital gain 'noise' that is introduced into the image.
Admin Viewer H.264 Support
The user can view high quality, low bandwidth video directly from the webpage of the VB-S900F without installing any software. This greatly simplifies small system setup and monitoring.
Control for Admin Panel Customization
To allow for greater customization of the Admin Panel, the VB-S900F supports the reorganization of the panel display in order to display those administrative functions most used, for quick access.
