Scattering (C20 and C60) quantifies how the specular component of BRDF is scattered and produce the identical output for those images which are different in brightness but have the same BRDF shape.What can Scattering do which DOI and IC cannot?
Accurately evaluate quality of materials when metallic or color materials are laid, which DOI and IC fails to measure.
Capable of evaluating not only glossy surfaces but also diffusing surfaces such as textured and matte surfaces which DOI and IC are incapable of.

Scattering (C20 and C60) is Canon’s proprietary index for overcoming the shortcomings of DOI (Distinctiveness of Image) and Image Clarity (IC). It quantifies how the specular component of BRDF is scattered and produces the identical output for those images which are different in brightness but have the same BRDF shape.

For glossy paint with high DOI, C20 1～10 range is suitable for evaluation.
For diffusing surface such as matte paint, C20 100～1000 range is suitable for evaluation.
DOI is only capable of measuring up to C20 100 while C20 can evaluating beyond for Matte Paper and Matte Paint.
C60 vs. Image Clarity ( JIS K 7374 )
Image Clarity (JIS) is only capable of partially measuring glossy paint. It is a limited index depending on objects.
