I created this image on my first shoot with the RF 100-300mm F2.8 L IS USM. While this is not ‘typically’ a fashion lens, I wanted to see how I could combine the beautiful 300mm compression with the wide aperture. I took my beautiful model Paula to a park across from Manhattan, where I could place the cityscape out of focus behind her. This is one of many dramatic shots we captured that day!

Purposeful color harmonies lead to more successful images. In this scene I wanted a nearly monochromatic color scheme with golden hair (wig), golden dress, golden makeup and golden light. All of the elements had that beautiful and rich golden hue, except for the hay surrounding my subject. I used color grading to shift the greens of the hay to more yellow/red. By using a narrow depth of field, I helped to simplify my background while still communicating a sense of depth.

I am always attracted to images that are bold, graphic and colorful. Here I collaborated with my friend and model Bryona Ashly to create this bold image during one of my intensive workshops. The concept began with those amazing heels, then she sourced the gloves, I decorated the box using wallpaper, and used a specialty gobo on the background. Collaboration is essential in my work, and pre-planning helps bring all of the elements together.

First time to capture tricolored aurora dancing above the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon in Iceland. Aurora gave the most beautiful dance in the air, with the lake reflecting the richest colors ever.

Just when the sun faintly shimmered, summer morning clouds in the Langyang Plain dyed the sky red, while glimmers in the fields and in the city enriched the morning glow gorgeously.

In the background is the Eldborg volcanic crater in Iceland. I spotted this while on my 3,000 km ride around Iceland on a motorcycle. Iceland’s landscapes look surreal because of the volcanic formations and lack of trees in general. This was my 64th country on a motorcycle. I shot with Canon R3 using the versatile RF24-240mm F4-6.3 IS USM lens that I choose when there’s less space.

One of the world’s fastest bikes is Ninja H2, and one of world’s largest capacity motorcycles is Rocket 3R. Witnessing these together is a breathtaking sight. I did a shoot of the two when I finally owned them together! And what better camera to use than Canon R3 with RF15-35mm F2.8 L IS USM lens.

I captured these images using a Canon EOS R3 paired with an RF15-35mm F2.8 L IS USM lens during my testing of the EOS R3 upon its release. Seated as a passenger, I suspended the camera from one hand, employing a slow shutter speed to achieve the unique effects seen in these photos. Throughout the journey, I alternated between driving and riding alongside two colleagues, seizing opportunities to capture moments whenever possible.

Water Polo is such a special and unique sport. For one reason, it’s the only Olympic ball sport that is played in the water. In the photo is Philippines National Water Polo Team veteran Maui Valdez. When shooting sports, I always try to look for additional elements that can add dynamism to a shot and make it more compelling. Here, I captured the water movement as it trailed the ball after the player picked it up. This action was a delightful addition to the intense emotion of the player.

Swimming is close to my heart. I grew up as a competitive swimmer and still swim regularly up to now. In the photo is my 14-year-old godson Enzi. I framed tight to capture the character of the water and positioned on a spot that will give me a bit of side-lighting for nice soft shadows, all to produce an engaging shot. A swimmer doing the breaststroke will go in and out of the water. The AF capabilities of the R3 dealt with that specific shooting condition flawlessly.

Austin Reeves of Team USA (#15) was the most popular player during the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023. He was clearly the crowd favorite. He's a slasher and I'm so glad that I was able to capture him doing one of his midair acrobatic moves. It was my first time to use the RF100-300mm F2.8 L IS USM in shooting basketball and I immediately loved it. The f/2.8 opening and the 300mm reach are perfect when shooting behind the baseline.

This image shows the European Brown Bear© taken in the Bavarian National Park. The brown bear is one of our biggest mammals in Europe, even if it’s a predator, and even though it is a carnivore, the brown bear generally eats a vegetarian diet. In past years, the population of brown bears, mainly in east Europe, has been increasing.

The Alpine ibex (Carpa ibex) has fascinated man since the Stone Age. Impressive horns of up to 100cm length, a stately weight of up to 120kg and unbelievable abilities to move in the mountains fascinate the observer. I took this image on a foggy day, that's why the background is so perfectly blurred.

The wonders of nature — bouldering sacred trees

With a wave of nature's magic wand, the huge boulder wrapped itself into the tree, creating a stunning scene like a living fiction!

The red kite, with the scientific name Milvus milvus, is a bird of prey with a graceful contrast of white and reddish brown. Because of its beauty, the red kite was overhunted in Europe to make stuffed birds (taxidermy), and its population declined rapidly. This is the moment when the RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM caught the moment the red kite made a dive for its prey on the surface of the water with its manoeuvrability and precise autofocus. Although the flight was extremely quick, the fearless expression and sharp claws were evident in this dynamic image.

Born in the former East German city of Jena, Robert's ethos stems from a childhood fascination with nature, which began while he was exploring local wildlife with his grandfather. The Bakar Tongkang Ritual

The Bakar Tongkang Ritual or Go Ge Cap Lak is a religious tradition held once a year for the Chinese people of Bagansiapiapi, Riau to commemorate their ancestors and express gratitude to Gods Kie Ong Ya and Tai Sun, by burning a replica of a barge.

Graduated with a Bachelor in Civil Engineering, and works as a Travel Photographer photographing Landscape, Nature, Culture and People. Elephants in Amboseli, Kenya make this journey across the dry lakebed every single day in search of water, and in years like 2022 when there is a drought, it becomes all the tougher. The dance of death and life would not be complete without us humans, as we affect so much of the world around us. Hence the vehicle being there at the right moment completed the frame for me. A low angle was needed to have the impact I feel.

Everest. I wanted to see the world of the highest place on earth, so I set my sights on its summit. The black sky that reminded me of outer space. Extremely low temperatures that froze my body and soul. The fear of death that approached so close to me. When I overcame all that, there was nothing higher than me on earth. Namaqualand

The desert region of Namakwaland in northwestern South Africa. This region is completely a desert for most of the year; however, only for a few weeks in late August, a landscape of flower fields emerges, stretching beyond the horizon. It is as if a god have worked a capricious miracle, and people in this local call it the “Flower-garden of the Gods”.

Humpback whale

After conquering the world’s highest mountain, Everest, I decided to travel the oceanic worlds. My first stop was the French territory of Tahiti, to take pictures of humpback whales over 15 meters long. It was difficult to capture images of the delicate wildlife, but after two weeks of swimming every day, I was able to get a few chances.

Born in Wakayama Prefecture in 1988. After graduating from Kyoto University of Foreign Studies, he embarked on a round-the-world trip at the age of 24, visiting 45 countries in 18 months. After returning to Japan, he joined Amana Inc. and became a freelance photographer in 2016. He is traveling and shooting in polar and remote areas around the world to bring images of unimaginable landscapes to larger audience. In recent years, he has been expanding the field of his activities to the range — from 8,000m peaks in the Himalayas to wildlife, underwater life, deserts, and Antarctica, and has attained the peaks of Manaslu (8,163m) in 2019 and Everest (8,848m) in 2021.

His main books include a photo book “Between the Sky and the Earth, the borderline between dream and reality —Everest” and a new book “The Sky of Everest” In 2017, he received the Canon “SHINES” Award 2017 (Shinagawa Kazuharu selection).

This is one of my favorite techniques I use for outdoor on-location photography. The technique consists of letting the shadow graphics from the nearby tree project on the wall behind the subjects but use a diffuser overhead to clean the light on the subject’s faces. Last, but not least, add a flash to make the subjects pop from the background with a large modifier to keep the lighting soft and flattering. This photo was taken with my absolute favorite lens, the Canon RF 100-300mm F2.8. This lens can do it all!

Photo of former Miss Universe 2022 R’Bonney Gabriel Nola: This photo of R’Bonney was taken in the Sonoran Desert in Tucson Arizona during The Photo Creators Conference. The spiky large cactus provided great juxtaposition with the soft dress material R’Bonney was wearing. The Canon RF 85mm F1.2 really shines in situations like this, where the background is relatively close to the subject, but with this lens, it is possible to still achieve a great blur in the background to create separation. A 3-stop magnetic ND filter was used to lower the exposure and allow for the flash to function within its flash sync speed.

Photo of Latin actor Fernando Noriega. There is a time and a place to take some risks. During this photoshoot with Fernando Noriega, I had already taken all the clean safe shots for this magazine editorial. Therefore, it was time for some risk taking. I used these home décor plants as a way to create a frame around his face. This will draw the viewer’s attention right to his upper body. Since the leaves were the same color palette as the rest of his outfit, they served perfectly as a monochromatic frame without creating any distractions.

For another version of shots, to make the perspective more interesting, I asked Fernando to lie down on the corner of his couch. For this series of shots, I stood up on a stool to get a bird’s eye view and shot these photos with my arms extended as far up as I could. I relied 100% on the Canon R5’s eye tracking auto focus capabilities to keep the eye tack sharp, even though I couldn’t see the screen very well from my angle. The Canon RF 28-70mm F2.0 was the perfect lens for this, since it allowed me to zoom in and out until the perfect frame and composition was achieved. From of all the photos featured in GLOW magazine from this shoot, this was the chosen photo for the cover of the article. Sometimes, risks pay off much more than you can imagine.

A really amazing moment caught very early in the morning as an orangutan mummy was playing with her baby. They both noticed we were staring at them through binoculars and a camera... For the following 6-7 years, the infant will look after and accompany his mother while she learns survival tactics in the wild. Wallace's Hawk-Eagle is a medium-sized eagle. It is invaluable to be able to spot it at eye-level and in close view of the parent bringing food back for her baby. The raptor's expression is a reminder to us to not bother her and her baby.

As morning breaks, the Dusky Eagle-Owl, which is uncommon in Malaysia, prepares to return to its roosting place. With today's advanced technologies, taking a photo only requires pressing the shutter button. Don't disturb the creature if it decides to return to sleep. Respect nature.

Liew WK’s interest in nature since youth spurred his interest in nature photography. Whether it is still or video imagery, he revels in capturing nature’s best floras and faunas. In 2005, around when digital photography took flight, he began taking nature photography seriously and specialized in insect macro shots, wildlife as well as landscape genres.
