From the opening of the New York office in 1955 to the further development of imaging products today, Canon U.S.A., Inc. has been a leader in product development in the Americas. 1950s
The IV Sb is the first camera marketed by Canon’s New York Branch.
In September 1955, Canon opened its first overseas office, the New York office, in the middle of the Fifth Avenue commercial district.
The VT model is the first Canon camera designed for mass production.
Cine 8-T 8mm cine camera launched in November 1956 as Canon's first step toward camera diversification.
Canon introduces its first 35mm single lens reflex (SLR) camera, the Canonflex.
The Reflex Zoom 8 starts the boom in 8mm zoom cameras.
1960s
The Canonflex is the first Canon SLR sold in the U.S.
The Canonet is Canon’s first Electronic Eye or EE camera. 2,500,000 of the first Canonet model are sold.
The world’s first 10-key electronic calculator, the Canola 130, debuts.
The Scoopic 16, with its name derived from the word “scoop” in the jargon of news broadcasting, was developed by Canon as the world’s first 16 mm movie camera with a built-in zoom lens.
Canon reorganized its New York Branch Office and then established the U.S.-based corporation, Canon U.S.A., Inc. in December 1965.
The Auto Zoom 814 Super 8 is the first Super 8 model to feature an 8-to-1 power zoom lens.
Canon breaks into the U.S. television broadcast market with the P10x20B, 10X zoom lens for color television cameras.
1970s
The Pocketronic is the first miniature-sized electronic calculator with a thermal print-out system.
The NP-1100, Japan's first PPC, is introduced.
The PPC-1, Japan's first mask aligner, is introduced.
The Macro Zoom Lens K5x25, released in May 1971. The lens won great acclaim, garnering the two engineers the honor of receiving the Academy Scientific and Technical Award in 1972.
In 1971, the company opened an office in Chicago. It also moved its headquarters to Lake Success, New York, outside of the city.
The NP-L7 introduces Canon’s revolutionary NP copying system, which is the world’s first plain paper copier with liquid-dry.
The revolutionary AE-1, the world’s first SLR with computer-controlled automation is introduced. Nationwide advertising on television promotes the AE-1 camera and the Canon name.
The FPA-141 Fine Print Aligner improves Large Scale Integration (LSI) circuit production.
The NP-8500, the world's first retention-type copier, is introduced.
The P10-D, became the world's first portable printing and display calculator.
Sure Shot is launched as Canon's first autofocus 35mm camera.
The LBP-10 is launched as the world's first semiconductor laser beam printer.
1980s
Telefax 601 Canon enters the facsimile market with the FAX-601.
The PC-10 and PC-20 are introduced as the world’s first personal copying machines with replaceable cartridges.
Canon enters the home video market with the VC-10A camera and VR-10A recorder.
The LBP-CX, the world's smallest laser beam printer was introduced.
The BJ-80 is launched as the world's first inkjet printer using bubble-jet technology.
The RC-701 is introduced as the world's first professional still video camera.
The EOS autofocus SLR camera is introduced along with a range of EF lenses.
Together with the new EF lens series employing the first ever USM for commercial use, the EOS 650 was unveiled to much fanfare in February 1987 as the first model to popularize the new system. This was followed by the launch of the EOS 620 high-grade model in May.
The EOS-1 top-of-the-line professional autofocus SLR and L series EF lenses are introduced.
1990s
The FAX-L770 is Canon's first Laser Class facsimile to offer Ultra High Quality output.
In 1990, Canon became the first company to collect and recycle used copier toner cartridges. In May 1990, a trial run of cartridge collection was conducted in eleven western states in the U.S. As it was the first experiment of its kind in the world.
The CJ-10 is the world's first digital desk-top printer, scanner and full-color copier.
Canon introduces the ELPH as its first Advanced Photo System camera, the world's smallest with a 2X optical zoom lens.
The PowerShot 600 is introduced as Canon's first digital camera.
Canon enters the digital video camcorder market with the OPTURA.
The imageRUNNER 600, the first of the Series, is introduced.
2000s
Canon released the PowerShot S100 DIGITAL ELPH, the world’s smallest and lightest 2-megapixel-class digital camera with an optical zoom lens.
Canon introduces the PowerShot S30/S40 cameras that allow direct printing to a Bubble Jet printer without a PC.
Canon introduces its first compact photo printer, the CP-10.
The imageRUNNER 3300 featuring environmentally conscious technologies is introduced.
The EOS—1D is launched as Canon's first professional digital SLR.
The EOS-1Ds is launched as Canon's first full-frame digital SLR.
The Color imageRUNNER C3200 color network digital MFD is introduced.
The launch of the EOS Digital Rebel, a high resolution compact digital SLR AF camera, delivers more power to the prosumer market.
The PIXMA iP8500 inkjet printer featuring the new Chromalife 100 ink system is introduced.
In 2004 when Canon U.S.A.’s consolidated sales surpassed the long-sought $ 10 billion mark. This milestone came exactly twenty years after its sales first reached $ 1 billion in 1984.
The XL H1 high-definition video camcorder is introduced.
The imagePRESS C1, a digital color production system for commercial printing, is introduced.
The PowerShot SD700 IS DIGITAL ELPH becomes Canon's first digital camera with a built-in image stabilizer.
The PIXMA Pro9500, a photo inkjet printer for professionals using 10 pigment ink, is introduced.
The imagePROGRAF iPF6100, the world's first large-format printer with an ambient light adjustment function, is introduced.
The imagePRESS C7000VP, unveiled in July 2006 and launched in April the following year, marked Canon’s full-scale entry into the POD market.
The EOS 5D Mark II, the first camera ever to incorporate full HD video, is introduced.
The imageRUNNER ADVANCE series of next-generation office network MFP's with enhanced IT environment integration is introduced.
2010s
The EOS 60D and EOS Rebel T2i are introduced.
Canon enters the motion picture production industry with the launch of the Cinema EOS System of cinema cameras and lenses.
Canon enters the commercial photo printer market with the introduction of the DreamLabo 5000.
The PIXMA PRO-1 professional inkjet printer, featuring the newly developed LUCIA 12-color ink system, is introduced.
MREAL, a new MR (mixed reality) system that contributes to reduced development times during product design, is introduced.
Canon U.S.A., Inc., Introduces the DP-V3010 4K Reference Display For Digital Cinema Color-Grading And 4K / 2K Postproduction And Effects Monitoring.
One Canon Park To Become The New Home Of Canon U.S.A. In Melville, New York.

Canon enters the machine vision market with the launch of the RV100 3-D Machine Vision System, which makes possible high-speed, high-precision 3-D recognition.
