VB-M40

Support Network Cameras

Features
The VB-M40 is able to deliver superb visual quality and image consistency thanks to the brilliant lens technology Canon brings to its 20x Optical Zoom lens. Not only will you have a commanding view of your surveillance area, you'll have the best in high performance zooming from the 55.4º wide-angle to the 2.8º telephoto. This lens delivers clear, sharp images throughout the zoom range.
Wide-angle (55.4°) and high magnification (2.8°) zoom lens

Third party integration is simple with the VB-M40 because it's ONVIF version 1.02 conformant. Compatibility with this standard protocol, as well as WebView, Canon's network camera protocol, enables the user to create a system which best meets their needs, with equipment from different manufacturers and third party recording software. It also simplifies the work of system integrators by expanding the ability to use third party recording software. This XML based standard systematizes the protocols of settings for camera, control and information acquisition. Among the functions supported are camera search by WS-Discovery, authentication by WS-Security, RTP streaming of video (JPEG, H.264), audio (G.711), events (including PTZ and Camera status) and Multicast. Network settings, camera system parameters, rebooting external IO control and preset home settings are also supported. In addition, SSL communication and setting of intelligent functions are also possible.

"ONVIF" and are trademarks of ONVIF Inc.

The megapixel CMOS Sensor of the VB-M40 helps ensure the maximum in image quality, a hallmark of Canon products. Its approximately 1.3 million pixels delivers sharp, high resolution video with four times the detail of a VGA camera for clearer, more useful video monitoring.

The VB-M40's image capture technology allows the camera to capture color video down to 0.03 Lux* and black/white video down to 0.001 Lux*. You will see the remarkable clarity of the video captured in even the most challenging low light conditions, indoors or outside at night.

Color image in light conditions of 0.4 lux Monochrome image in light conditions of 0.1 lux * Ratings based on F1.6, 1/8 second and Smart Shade Control on.
The VB-M40 is packed with features which enhance its functionality and usability. Among the most useful are its sophisticated On-board Video Analytics, enabling the camera to detect Moving, Abandoned, or Removed Objects in its range of vision, and also detect attempts at Camera Tampering and changes in Sound Levels. For added control, the VB-M40 also offers a Privacy Mask function which allows the blocking of certain areas of the camera's field of view, to protect from inadvertent intrusions of privacy or password theft (even during P/T/Z operations the specified areas will be masked).

Thanks to the VB-M40's impressive algorithm highly precise detection is achieved by using polygonal and rectangle shapes to specify up to 15 areas of detection (as opposed to only using rectangle shapes like some competitor models). Additional flexibility is provided in that notification of a detection can be made through the network from the camera using a number of functions including automatic recording, e-mail transmission, uploading video to a specified target server and events in ONVIF by the RM server. It is also possible to combine a number of detection functions for simultaneous notification.

Specifying areas of detection using polygonal shapes increases accuracy. Specifying areas of detection using rectangular shapes limits accuracy.
Moving Object Detection

Suspicious person who is trying to break in to the building is detected.
Removed Object Detection

Theft of valuables is detected. Abandoned Object Detection Suspicions parked car is detected. Camera Tampering Detection Changing the camera's angle and obstructing the surveillance visual with spray-paints or cloth is detected.
Sound Level Detection

Vandalism is detected.
Privacy Mask Function

Certain areas of the camera's view can be blocked, enabling fine security countermeasures against invasion of privacy and password theft by the camera.
All encoding and transmission is performed with Canon's powerful, proprietary hardware-based compression engine called DIGIC NET. This allows the VB-M40 to simultaneously deliver both H.264 and JPEG video in high resolution 1280 x 960 at the maximum frame rate of 30fps - with no loss in frame rate, unlike many competing models.

The H.264 Codec of the VB-M40 provides superb image compression, delivering high resolution images with small data size, thereby resulting in low bandwidth utilization. The benefits are obvious, with an infrastructure cost savings as well as reduced data storage capability needs, all while maximizing the quality of the video image.

Video Compression Image Sizes H.264 1280 x 960, 640 x 480, 320 x 240 JPEG 1280 x 960, 640 x 480, 320 x 240, 160 x 120

The Image Stabilizer feature works to compensate for image blur caused by camera vibrations or movement. This is useful against building vibration or strong winds, as may occur when the camera is installed on an outdoor pole. Two levels of electronic image stabilization are fitted to the VB-M40 camera, to accommodate varying levels of movement intensity.

Smart Shade Control, or SSC, is an exclusive Canon technology that automatically adjusts images which may have a bright background by adjusting the contrast of the darker areas without losing the brightness of the lighter areas. No longer will backlit images be difficult to read or hide necessary information.

As the available light changes, the Auto Day/Night feature allows this camera to automatically adjust to maintain optimal image quality. This feature of the VB-M40 is especially useful for installations near doors, windows or skylights as the Auto Day/Night function can achieve up to 40x increased image sensitivity.

The VB-M40 supports IEEE 802.3af compliant Power over Ethernet technology, which allows the use of a single LAN cable to both power the camera and transfer video and audio data when connected to a Power over Ethernet switch. By eliminating the need to run AC connections to installation sites of the cameras, installation costs are kept to a minimum. In addition, it makes possible more flexibility in placement of the VB-M40 and convenience in providing a conduit for remote monitoring.

With the VB-M40, you can have two-way mono audio communication between the remote monitoring center and the surveillance location. G.711μ-Law compliant, it offers echo cancellation. This feature allows the camera to serve as an even more powerful component of your security infrastructure.

Audio output can be set to playback pre-recorded audio
when triggered by an event like motion detection

The VB-M40 has a built-in SD Memory Card slot, allowing streamed images from the camera as well as uploaded images to be saved to an SD card, providing a backup in case of network outages. In addition, when issues occur system logs are also created and stored on the SD card for future troubleshooting.

For security in network communication, the VB-M40 supports both HTTPS as well as IPsec encryption.

Canon's proprietary software is included at no cost with the purchase of VB-M40. It allows for the monitoring, recording and playback of up to four cameras.
