Canon offers a series of protective filters for screw-on lenses in several sizes (43mm-82mm) as a lens accessory. 

The Affected Canon Models and their Model Numbers are listed in the table below and have the “MADE IN JAPAN” marking on them: 

The products listed above were designed to help protect a camera lens from dust and moisture.  They were inadvertently marketed as “UV Protector” filters even though they do not provide UV protection.

While the lack of a UV coating on the filters could possibly impact image quality when attached to lenses used with film cameras, where the filters are attached to lenses used with digital cameras, the image quality would not be affected because the CMOS sensors on Canon DSLR cameras are not sensitive to UV rays. 

After inspection of the filter has confirmed that it is one of those listed above, Canon U.S.A., Inc. will refund the cost of the filter. Please contact the Canon Customer Support Center below for details.
