Canon Unveils Major Firmware Updates for Cinema EOS Lineup, Elevating Real-Time Live Production, Color Control, and Virtual Workflows

A New Remote Camera Application for PTZ and Cinema Models Is Also Introduced to Simplify Multi-Camera Workflows

MELVILLE, N.Y., November 4, 2026 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is announcing a feature-rich firmware update for its Cinema EOS camera lineup, including the EOS C400, EOS C80, EOS C50, and EOS R5 C cameras. Designed to help solve production challenges faced by filmmakers, live broadcast crews, and virtual production technicians, this release bridges technical capabilities with real-world creative demands.

Multi Matrix Color Axis Control: Advanced Multi-Camera Matching

Matching color profiles across different camera bodies or adapting to tricky venue lighting often consumes valuable setup time or demands expensive external hardware. With the introduction of Multi Matrix support, camera operators and engineers can now adjust the phase and gain of specific color axes remotely or directly within a dedicated camera menu. For example, a live broadcast crew running a multi-camera setup can make rapid in-camera color adjustments to match the Canon EOS C400, EOS C80, and EOS C50 feeds with existing studio cameras on the fly.

Audio & Autofocus in Slow & Fast (S&F Motion Recording) Mode: High-Frame-Rate Precision

High-frame-rate S&F recording historically required cinematographers to sacrifice key features like live audio monitoring and automated subject tracking. This update reduces the burden of focus operation by enabling autofocus capability for additional frame rates in S&F mode at 72, 75, 90, and 96 fps, alongside external audio transmission via SDI and HDMI.

Sensor Mode Assignable Button Feature

The EOS C400, EOS C80, and EOS C50 cameras will have the ability to change sensor modes via assignable buttons, which will allow them to quickly change the angle of view without having to change lenses, or even access the camera menu.

1/8000 Shutter Speed & External Flash Support: Outdoor Control & Visibility

The addition of a 1/8000 shutter speed on the EOS C50 camera gives documentary and filmmakers more control over exposure. With the addition of external flash support in photo mode, the EOS C50 camera streamlines lighting adjustments and maximizes workflow efficiency on set.

PTZ and Cinema Cameras Application

Canon also announced the free Camera Control Center, a new all-in-one remote camera application for PTZ, select Pro Video and Cinema Cameras. Camera Control Center simplifies multi-camera productions and device management for applications such as broadcast, live events, house of worship, and education. It streamlines setup and operations by consolidating updated versions of the Camera Search Tool, Camera Color Matching Application (supporting CR-N700, CR-N400, and CR-N350), Multi-Camera Management Application, and Remote Camera Control Application into a single tool. Additionally, a new Angle of View Simulator for PTZ Cameras is included that lets operators preview subject composition relative to the camera position prior to setup. Supporting up to 200 Canon PTZ, select Pro-Video and Cinema cameras via XC Protocol, Camera Control Center launches later this year on Windows, with a macOS release to follow.

Availability

The firmware updates for Canon’s Cinema EOS cameras are currently scheduled to be available by December 2026.

Camera Control Center is currently scheduled to be available later January 2027.
